I would personally rather have leinart or cutler but it is looking more and more like that won't be happening. So that leaves us with Vince Young. Young is the kind of guy you completely build your offense around. He needs to be the focal point of your offense because he so multi-dimensional. A guy like Young doesn't walk in and pick up last year's playbook. You write a new playbook for Vince Young. Of all the teams in this draft, the jets might be the perfect fit. The jets basically don't have an offense. Bring in Vince, you not only improve your passing game but you also improve your running game. I am not the biggest young fan. and when i look at mangini, i always draw comparisons to a belicheck team and i could never imagine vince young playing for belichek. but he might just be the perfect fit for a team with as many holes to fill as the jets.
Vince will not be a Jet. Like you said...Vince Young would never play for Bill...Nor will he play for Mangini. Unless the Titans took Jay Cutler at 3 Jay would probably be the pick.
The reason why you can't see Vince playing for Mangini is because picking Vince would be a Bradway move. Trying to solve 5 problems with 1 answer. I forsee Mangini and TBaum building a solid foundation and house rather than throwing up a pre-fab.
first of all, we are not going to pick up last year playbook, its will probably be all new because the coaching staff has changed.... i don't think Vince Young will be as successful as he was at the Rose Bowl, he ran all over the USC defence. he won with his feet not his arm. that game almost looked like USC gave them the game... we need a good QB and a good RB, no 2 for 1 deal......
Geez...I hope it dosent happen. I really would rather have one of the other QBs. Otherwise Id be content to wait until next year, unless we can land him in the 2nd round (and we all know that wont happen)
He was 30/40 for what, 240 yards passing? Any other QB does that, and you say he won with his arm. Vince needed to have a Herculean effort to beat USC, and he did, he won with an arm and won with his legs as well. It was just an absolute monstrous game, and that's what it took to beat USC's college dream team. But he did it, and that's what makes it so entertaining and admirable. I don't know if he will ever be that succesful again. That was the single greatest football performance I have ever seen in my life, on any level, when you take into account the relative team talents in that level of competition. These were the best teams in college, and Vince absolutely succeeded at that level. You simply can't take that away from him, but I myself do not see that being repeated even in college again. I think Vince would be a great fit for another reason. You surround VY with mediocre talent on offense, give him just enough to win, and you overload on defense. Does that formula sound familiar to you? It should. And personally, I think VY has the potential to be even great than Tom Brady, and if he panned out for us like that, we'd have our long awaited Vince Lombardi trophy again. Obviously he could be a bust, but obviously any QB can be. I don't think much of Leinart, but if he's our QB I'd support him. I'm high on both Cutler and VY, but VY is just so exciting to watch, and I really want to see him succeed. He honestly seems like a great guy. Good attitude, great leadership skills...seriously, I don't see how you can hate the PERSON. I understand doubting his QB abilities, but to hate the guy's personality would be silly.
i don't hate Vince Young.... i think he will be a good QB but not one that will get the Jets to the SB. maybe it's just because he reminds me a lot of Vick. i think Vince Young will be lucky if he turns out as good as Vick.(and Vick isn't all that great) i would take Leinart or Cutler but not Young, and i do not believe that Young will be anywhere as good as Brady.
God no. This would be the worst thing that could happen to the Jets. I'd take almost anyone instead of Young.
If Cutler was gone, and we're left at 4 with Young, forget it I'd rather take D'Brickashaw Ferguson and maybe get Brodie Coyle in the later rounds. I want no part of Vince Young the more the draft gets closer. I used to be exstatic about maybe getting him, but I'm just getting a vibe from the guy. Its just me now, thats my opinion.
Am I really one of the only people who wouldn't mind Young in green and white? A player of his calibur doesn't come around very often, this guy has the potenital to be the next Randal Cuningham.
Young is a winner with a great work ethic who consistently improves himself, that to me is a Mangini/Belicheck type of player.
I don't like Young, but you just made a great argument. Well said sir-- Read my other posts, and let me know your opinion on that if you have some time. Take a look at "why we should draft cutler at 4 or trade way down" Thanks
How about a QB that can do both? People find "scrambling QBs" so aversive these days, that they'll instantly peg Vince Young as a future-bust without even giving him a chance. I mean, sure he racked up 200 yards on the ground against USC, but he also completed 30 out of 40. QBs who find a nice balance between running and passing can succeed, too, ya know.
No, no, no, enough already. Young will not be a jet. He is not a franchise QB, he is not quick enough mentally to pick up a a heavy playbook. This is not college. He will not be leading anything, and a running QB is not what we need. We need a bright, strong leader than can throw the football deep and accurately, and he is not the guy. If Cutler is gone by the 4th spot, we will probably trade down or pick the best player and he ain't it. Enough of Young already. We do not need him.
I absolutely disagree with anyone who thinks that Belicek, Mangini would ever want a guy because he is a "scrambling" quarterback. Mangini has said in numerous press conferences that he is not going to run just one scheme, but rather, a different scheme each and every week depending on what is required to beat the team they are playing that particular Sunday. If anything, a multidimensional quarterback makes that easier to do, because it gives Mangini more options to game plan with. We might face a team with a weak secondary one week, and Mangini will have Vince throw all day, then the next week, play a strong secondary and a linebacking corps that overpursues, and then Mangini could have Vince running for his life the whole game just to disrupt the defense. The fact is Young showed against USC that not only is he a good quarterback, but he is a quarterback that will show up in a big spot. He's got a multitude of tools. He will be a successful quarterback in the NFL.
He can win games with his arm and,if necessary, his legs. Considering the current state of our O-line, we could certainly use a multi-dimensional talent such as VY who can win games in more than one way.
