Welp lets see how we handle this young QB. If he struggles does he still give us the best chance to win?
Yeah, the whole "best chance to win" narrative really can't be turned to when you start the youngest week 1 QB in league history.
Please, please, please. Just protect him. Struggles or not, mistakes or not, if he is safe back there he is the guy. Baptism of fire on an unbelievable setting on Monday night football. May the force be with him. May a NYJ super star be born in Detroit. Our wait is over.
It can when the alternative is a 39 year old journeyman like McCown. Not like McCown is way better than Sam. You give Josh the edge with experience. He has seen so much, where as Sam has seen nothing. Every other edge goes to Darnold. He can't gain experience without playing either, so it was a slam dunk choice.
On the road in prime time. No sweat, kid. The Jets FAN in me loves this. But the JETS fan in me, is scared as shit.
Irrelevant this year I believe. It’s all about growth and Darnold building his knowledge base. He’s already shown he absorbs everything thrown at him with ease. Therefore, experience, no matter the performance, is paramount for him this year.
The Lions D wasn't very good last year (26th per PFF) and didn't make many personnel changes this off-season. I'd say it's unlikely it's any better this year with Darth Patricia the fat bearded rapist. The best way for the Jets to protect Darnold is to run the shit out of the ball. Then run it some more. And when they stack the box you run playaction with a deep strike to Robby. Wash, rinse and repeat.
I agree man...just protect him. They must love his demeanor, but I want him alive and not destroyed like some others have done to their QBs
We're all sitting in the same boat with you. Pray to the football gods, then cross your fingers, toes, eyes, and anything in between. Here we go!
I'm on board. I think we should all be prepared to take some lumps and bumps in the road but hopefully he follows the path so many other really good QB's have taken where year 1 is a little bit on the brutal side but then from there on its ass-kicking time.
Still didn't want to see Sam Darnold until the latter third of the season until we see how the OL performs. The Queen is not pleased. If Sam starts getting beat up like Terry Malloy by Johnny Friendly and the Jets don't pull out the vaudeville hook and yank him off the stage, I won't be amused. I picked this scene for puns and metaphors, but if the Jets F this up, I might have to retire my fan cleats for a couple of months.
Pass pro won't be as bad with Beachum. Hes practicing today. Hopefully ready to go. Qvale is really bad. Run blocking? That's another story
McCown has been so used to trailing in games his whole career, that when he had the lead, he did not know what to do! Happened a few times last year.
I've got faith that Sam Darnold will persevere thru any hiccups. Now he just needs a fucking cool nickname... I like this as a logo in the meanwhile.
Good luck kid. I hope you change the destiny of this team and bring multiple championships. May God always be on your side.
