https://x.com/i/status/2016542203582029917 Jets are hiring former Dolphins pass game coordinator Brian Duker as their defensive coordinator, as NFL Network reported.
Never heard the name of my life before yesterday but it doesn’t really matter. First off, this means Glenn is calling the defense which is probably the best option of all for many reasons… He’s already been good at it and now everything rests squarely on his shoulders. Second, everyone is going to be gone this time next year anyway so who cares? At the end of the day if we don’t add a significant amount of talent, doesn’t matter who is DC or calling plays.
Who cares? He’s not calling the plays on game day. He might as well just be our passing game coordinator now because he’s a DC in name only
This, fact is Glenn couldn't get anyone worth a shit here, especially if Glenn wanted to call plays. Imo Glenn has been neutered to glorified DC, I bet he doesn't have a lick of say when Reich comes in to be the "HCof the offense" as reported Glenn was looking for. This just solidified the tank imo, no way Glenn is here in 27'
This guy is gone in 1 year tbh. No real candidates want this job because Glenn is a lame duck coach. Browns and Jets are playing in their own super bowl of futility and stupid decisions. Which hiring is worse? Monken to Browns as a HC or Puker to Jets as a DC? Waste of a hire
i think it is a good move. Well as good as it could be under the circumstances. Way better than adding Wink. Basically Glenn becomes a defensive play caller and we add a young (36) promising guy he worked with before to replace Wilks. He was a passing D coordinator for Miami last year, and they actually were not that bad, #18. Running defense in comparison was #26, so Duker was OK. Honestly, aside from someone like JL, this was the best DC option. Frankly something like this should have been done last year to begin with.
This guy is literally Chris Harris, but he at least takes away the image that the Jets couldn’t hire anyone from outside the org to work with Glenn.
I think the expectation across the board is that all these hires are for show. This entire staff will be gone next year and it would take a turn around the likes of which has never been seen in the NFL to change that.
It will take lots of money and basically giving the power to a good HC. But the Jets may just Urban Meyer that too and we go back to the same cycle of dogshit
Hilarious that we originally had O'Neil on the original DC list, he ultimately replaced Dooker in Miami. So our original candidate that wasn't a popular choice replaced the guy that got fired so we hired him for DC got it.
Not for nothing... anyone who wants to call plays isn't going to lure a top DC candidate ever. If it wasn't going to be Leonhard, this was the next best option. Young guy who was involved int he development of top tier players (Joseph, Branch) with a guy who has had success in the past calling the plays. The pathway was stupid, the result is fine.
It's pretty common for a HCs to call their side of the ball. Looks at Seattle HC, who calls defensive plays, just made SB. Ryans did it, and others. I would prefer that much more than getting Wink to call defense and then hear Glenn say how Wink's defense does not work. Glenn is a defensive guy and He actually chose to die on his sword, assuming he does end up calling plays. That's a right thing to do. Besides that Duker fellow does not seem like he is all that bad. And maybe Glenn will make himself useful finally on a game day.
