ARRGG!! I HATE when people say this! We DID NOT trade a 1st round draft pick for Jolley, we traded down 20 or so spots from the 1st round to the 2nd round for him!! Get it right!!!
To be precise, we went from pick 23 down to pick 47 for the acquisition of Jolley. I agree, I get a little annoyed when people phrase it as a "straight up" 1st rd pick for Jolley. Makes us sound even more stupid than we are at times.
These writers are doing the same thing they do with every new situation, assume it is going to suck until proven otherwise because they know nothing about it. This team will NOT suck. They're going 30-0... Jonathan Vilma said it himself!
The problems described are legit, especially about scoring TD's. It's this reason I feel Mangini has held back in naming starters at certain skill positions . Our feel good story is getting Chad back, and most of us have a sentimental spot for him as we remember what he did, could have done. But thats a long time ago, with a veteran O Line. We need movement and athletism on offense to give us a chance to score. Thats why we need to take a really good look at Clemens, Brad Smith and Leon Washington as our starters at their respective positions. Its suicide to start rookies, we know that, but I'd rather lose close and be exciting, than get annihilated every week with boredom and paltry production.
I think all I'm looking for in the first 8 games is if they can learn the X's and O's and if they buy into Mangini's system. Also, I want to see how the OL shakes out, and if some of the younger guys like Cotchery, Strait, Miller and Coleman can make the adjustments needed to play in the NFL. Clearly, we have a more holes than swiss cheese this year, so wins will be at a minimum.
Hate to say, but it's pretty accurate, and that's not even touching on having 2 rookies on he oline, and another potential QB mess (hopefully Chad has recovered) Right on the money aside from the little Jolley trade detail, but that was a stupid freakin trade anyway so........ 6-10 at best
There are only two places to end the season. Super Bowl Champs or overall first pick in the draft. We ain't winning the ring, so here's to a perfect 0-16 season. Jim Rome will be very proud of us.
Yeah, but it was a dumb trade... what would you rather have, Jolley and Nugent or Heath Miller and a FA kicker... if people want to give us shit for that, I say fine because we deserve it.
I'm so damn sick of hearing this. We traded our first round pick for the Raiders second AND Doug Jolley. Paid dearly? No we didn't, we moved up about 12 spots in a very weak draft and still got the guy we all wanted (Justin Miller) later in the second round.
for those who want to start Cedric Houston does this scare you, when your running back basically admits he has no speed: "Obviously, I'm not a speed back," he said. "I see myself as a slasher type of back who could be a bruiser. I try to punish the defense before it has a chance to punish me."
Traded down 20 spots? You're joking right? It's not how many spots we traded down. We traded our 1st round pick#26 & a 7th rounder for Jolley, a 2nd rd. pick# 47th and two sixth-round picks #182, #185. As much as it pains you The Bottom line is we gave up a 1st Rounder for Jolley and a few Picks.
I'd rather have Jolley, Nugent, Rhodes, and Houston (two other pieces that we were able to add due to the trade.)
