The Jets have drafted horribly for the last decade. Top 10 picks of the Jets that have been total Busts Gholston -Pick 6 Sanchez Pick 5 Miliner Pick 9 First Round Terrible Picks Kyle Wilson Calvin Pryor Quentin Coples 2nd Round Total Disasters Jace Amaro Devin Smith Stephen Hill Geno Smith Vlad Ducasse Only good to excellent picks they've made in top rounds were Williams and Wilkerson. Jury still out on Darren Lee as well as Hackenberg. Sheldon looks like he will end up being a wasted pick based on attitude. Last time we consistently drafted well was when Tannenbaum was listening to Mangini (Revis, Harris, Mangold, Brick). As soon as Rex started influencing Tannenbaum, the drafts were shit. Idzik 12-all garbage but Enunwa). Mac jury out on. 10 years of shit drafts. What don't they understand
Yep, and the problem doesn't stop there. What about Jalen Saunders and Shaq Evans before Martavis Bryant in the 4th round of 2014? Jets fans.....If you want to know why this team sucks so bad? Look no farther than the series of terrible General Managers we had. Tanny and Idzik were so bad, they should never even have gotten GM jobs in the first place. And just so you know? Mac could very well be no better than Tanny and Idzik. The jury is still out, but thus far aside from the Leonard Williams pick, his picks are sketchy at best? Even if you think he's done a wonderful job in the draft, even you must admit he needs to get MUCH better than he's been?
It's worse than you think, with very FEW exceptions, the picks Mangini made that you mentioned, their entire draft history in the top half of the draft has been a joke. Even Parcells screwed up with the Peyton nonsense, passing on Orlando Pace to move down for James Farrior, Rick Terry, Dedric Ward etc. and pass late in the 2000 draft on Brady when others pressed him to take Brady. I forget when it was created but there was a thread about biggest Jets draft busts historically. The list was long and disgusting and spanned the entire history of this sad franchise.
I think this is pretty well documented but what the hell lets document it again. The worst part of tannys drafts post mangini was the trade ups.way too many 4 pick drafts let the cupboard go bare. idzic had a good idea but using the same scouting dept as tanny while also walking into a coach that survived a g.m. change and head of scouting that survived being fired as g.m. along with another g.m. change started him already in the hole.no surprise that thing failed as bad as it did. now this will be macs 2nd draft with all of his people in place so we will see where it goes but so far he hasn't set the world on fire.
1977 New York Jets draft Round / Pick / Player / Position / School 1 4 Marvin Powell OT USC 2 33 Wesley Walker WR California 3 72 Tank Marshall DT Texas A&M 4 90 Scott Dierking RB Purdue 5 116 Perry Griggs WR Troy State 5 129 Gary Gregory OT Baylor 6 144 Joe Klecko DT Temple 7 168 Charlie White RB Bethune-Cookman 7 171 Bob Grupp - P Duke 7 195 Kevin Long RB South Carolina 8 200 Dan Alexander OG LSU 8 210 Ed Thompson LB Ohio State 9 227 Matt Robinson QB Georgia 10 256 John Hennessy LB Michigan UDFA Bruce Harper RB Kutztown State maybe their best draft ever - and they still whiffed on the punter : )
Gee whz U must just have returned fcrom Mars. I have been posting this for many , many years now but up to recently no body has been listening. BTW U left out MCC for NOT drafting Dak
If we could walk away from the 2017 draft (and rookie FA signings) with starting quality OT and OG, an elite WR, three decent running backs, an average linebacker, a QB with starting potential, six duds, and a HOF worthy DT, I would be very, very happy. Get to trading, Mac, we need to get up to 14 picks. And you'd better ace the RFA signings.
People have white collar jobs, sit at a desk write reports do their research Typical GM has asstants up the kazoo tons of scouting reports historical info and a travel expense acct Still can't get it right Problem : Owners name not Mara
Meh. so many variables involved with how brady got to be brady. meyers is a douche for acting like its a draft blunder. it as laughable as champs obsession with the jets passing on dak
I used to agree with you, but not so much anymore. All teams have mediocre drafts. The drafts that Tannenbaum and Mangini had are the exception. Those kinds of drafts get you to the AFC championship game in very short order, or - in the case of Seattle - Super Bowls. The draft is a total crap shoot. Who drafts well consistently? _Every_ franchise busts out with high picks more than they succeed. Patsies, Steelers, Ravens, you name it. The Colts are a wreck even after hitting on Luck. Granted, our drafting has been totally pathetic the last 5-6 years, worse than the average team, but not _that_ much worse. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk
Agreed. Tanny's problem wasn't so much the picks themselves, it was too much trading up which ended up hurting the depth of the team in the long run. I like that Macc is looking to trade down this year. It seems like the Jets are FINALLY rebuilding the right way. Now that I've said this, watch them bring in Tony Romo on a $20m deal and prove me wrong and trade the farm for the #1 overall.
good point, but also include Dexter McDougle in the high THIRD round that same year. Injured almost his entire last year of college, idiot idzik takes him the pick before mauler OL Gabe Jackson. McDougle wasn't even on most teams draft boards that year and now we see why.
