What I do every year about this time is go back and evaluate what I would have done in the draft after it's all over, to see if the Jets did the right things and made out. Well, when I went back to re-draft using their original draft picks with no trades, I was surprised to find I didn't miss out on any players or hardly any players I might have wanted. Maybe we could have snatched Gabe Watson the NT from Michigan - but if you look at the PHILOSOPHY of smart and tough players, he didn't fit in. Then I looked at our trades, and even trading down and back up, and adding an extra #2 pick for 2007, we didn't really miss on anyone. The guys we did pass up - some of the TE's and DE's either didn't fit the Mangini mold, or were question marks for other reasons. Guys we passed on like Lendale White, Watson, etc. were either problem children - or the kind of athletes who didn't translate well - stiff hip straight up types. I am so excited in reviewing our draft! Smart guys, tough guys, captains, honor roll students, guys who overcame injury, played multiple positions, overcame problems, etc. What a great start/core!
The one player I would have liked to seen in Green and White that they did have a chance to draft was Chris Gocong- DE - Cal Poly. I think he fits with the Tangini philosophy and would have provided the team with a situational pass rusher. Other than that I think the team was greatly improved and if Bryan Thomas can become the situational pass rusher we need then not drafting Gocong allows us to use that roster spot.
i agree with the guy from poly especially when the jets had checked him out and he seemed to be looking for in a lbers de end kind of guy
Yeah I don't understand that move at all.. Gil Brandt was saying that the Jets had him on the phone and told him they were gonna draft him, then they traded the pick away. Huh?
