We've outperformed expectations this year, but I still think we have too few leaders on the team. As much as Josh McCown played well for us, he should no longer be the starting QB. He was great for fantasy PPR leagues, but still made too many losing plays when it mattered most. We know we will still have Bowles and Mac next year, and Bowles has a lot of growing up to do this offseason, and Mac and him need to spend 75% of their offseason and draft picks to build a much better offense. That being said, here are my cuts: Mo Wilkerson - lazy ass who can only wish Rex Ryan was still a coach lol. Buster Skrine - penalty machine Justin Burris - penalty machine Matt Forte - Powell and McGuire more explosive at this stage of careers. Bryce Petty - Great guy, highest ceiling is decent backup. Nervous feet. Should not resign: Robbie Anderson - not worth the price tag - dumb as a doorknob. You just "know" once he sees the $$$, he's gonna do some stupid sheet. Wesley Johnson - overmatched plain and simple, cheap backup? Maybe. Should resign: Josh McCown - backup QB, finish his career here Demario Davis - as long as it's decent $. Morris Claiborne - reasonable deal Kony Ealy - reasonable deal, needs a prove it deal Lucky Whitehead - he'll be cheap and best returner option Should trade: Brian Winters - 3rd/4th rounder rounder. $7M cap hit/$7M dead hit but he's cuttable with no dead money after 2018. Played terrible this year but tradeable and somewhat proven. Too much $$$ for his uneven play. I would prefer to see us draft our next QB and start him immediately. In order to do that, we much beef up our o-line through the draft/FA and trade for a veteran starting center. How about you guys? Who else do you want GONE and some ideas on who to re-sign/trade/draft. Happy New Year everyone!!!
I agree with all but 2 Justin Buress is still on a rookie deal an average CB but a good ST player I keep him And no way you let Anderson go. He’s a 1000 yd receiver playing for peanuts And there will be no market for trading Winters
Winters isn’t worth a 7th with his contract and mediocre at best play. Anderson should absolutely be brought back. The last thing this offense needs is to lose one of its very few weapons.
Why cut Petty with his salary where it is? At worst he is camp fodder. Also, McGuire had negative yards today. Might want to bring Forte into camp as well.
Cutting Petty saves 700k against the cap, cutting Hack only saves 475k because of how the dead money on their contracts work, so cap savings is actually a plus for keeping hack and cutting petty not the other way around. It’s possible both are retained but very doubtful. Given that the only plus Petty brings over hack is game experience he’s the obvious choice to release.
Unless Robby wants #1 receiver money (even though he performed almost as good as one) you bring him back. They have a ton of money and he would complement Enunwa when he comes back. I dont even think they need worry about receivers right now as QB and O-line as much more important.
Cutting Hack saves you $475k this year plus an additional amount next year. Sure you eat two years of his bonus now in dead money but his salary the following year is about $900k.
Forte has been on one leg most the year but I wouldn't re sign him. Powell can be the "vet" RB. Grab another RB either late in the draft or grab someone that fits the scheme. Not re-signing Anderson is asinine. Wesley can go, Harrison seemed to be decent at center that he can return. Winters is solid, he will be back. Skrine, I think he will be back. He's inconsistent but still a solid CB. Same with Claiborne.
Robby Anderson is a speed receiver but not complete enough to start. Kearse is a way better WR than Robby, and Enunwa is also way better than Robby. Robby wants big money, hell during a game he was pleading with the viewers on TV to vote for him to be in the Pro Bowl lol. Honestly, I think Hansen and Stewart are just as good as Robby if given the playing time. I thought Robby was a FA after this year. Am I wrong?
In the grand scheme of things as far as nfl salaries go they both are Peanuts, especially for the position they play. Petty’s play has earned him the status of next to go. He did was missing throws on screens today. He does not inspire any faith that he can turn it around and become even a serviceable NFL QB. Hack has not shown anything to really earn a spot. But he’s 4 years younger and if your keeping a back up to develop he has he higher ceiling of the two. A perfect scenario is for us to draft a future #1 type and bring in a vet to compete/hold the fort/mentor him. We simply don’t have a QB you can win with on the roster ATM
Burris also has value as a back-up safety. It's the position he played early in his college career and should probably be playing in the NFL.
