The league just raised the salary cap to 180 million. So now the Jets could have right now without the cuts about 80 million for free agency. Douglas and Xerxes can go shopping.
And when you consider how many picks we have, we certainly sound like a team that should go after a franchise-altering elite QB entering his prime that only has a $10 mil cap hit.
If that falls through, Douglas could also make a run at Prescott, too. Pretty sure that the Jets could offer a large number without it severely impacting the rest of their FA search.
Dak scares the hell out of me. I think he's a great QB, but he's coming off a SERIOUS injury. One that could change his career. I don't know if I'm ready to sink $30 mil a year for at least the next three years into that ankle.
the increase actually kind of sucks for us. Half the league was behind the number, literally. From a competitive standpoint we had an edge there.
I don't think it will make a huge difference. Teams that were under or right up against the cap still won't have the kind of money to sign big impact players unless they also plan on releasing guys and riding the rail the entire season with little wiggle room. It was nice to see that many teams just flat out NOT in the picture though.
I definitely agree with the risk. If the leg all checks off all the medical boxes and the price is right — say first year 35M fully guaranteed, with a team option for the balance — then a one-year prove-it of Prescott might be worth the risk.
Prescott has already been re-signed by Dallas! https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/dallas-...gned a 1,average annual salary of $31,409,000.
I'm just thinking about a team like Buffalo that wants/needs to extend Josh Allen. Extending Allen and keeping Stefon Diggs beyond 2021 may not have been possible for them. Now with the extra $10 mill in 2021 they could front load an extension for Allen and make it possible they will still lose John Brown and Matt Milano FYI.. that's significant
Hmmm... I’m seeing that Dallas is still talking with him. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...in-qbs-recovery-after-added-clean-up-surgery/ Do you have a link? Would be interested in seeing the contract details.
https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/dallas-...gned a 1,average annual salary of $31,409,000. I don't understand it. Spotrac is reporting that signed a one-year deal with Dallas, but no one else seems to be reporting it. Spotrac is usually accurate. I don't understand why they would be reporting that he has signed if he hasn't. I just looked and no one else seems to be reporting it, so I guess Spotrac is wrong. Sorry about that.
This is the Google page: https://www.google.com/search?client=opera&q=dak+prescott+contract&sourceid=opera&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8 The Spotrac bit is at the top of the page and looks like they have just signed him, but I guess that was for 2020. Again, my apologies.
This is unfortunate. Despite having to come back from injury he is pretty much a sure thing. If Dallas let him test free agency he would have been the low hanging fruit for us.
This year is about free agency for the Jets. They can afford to sign 3 or 4 quality starters and load up on draft choices by trading down. By next year the coaches will be familiar with all the player and they can scout the colleges without restrictions.
Dak hasn't signed with Dallas. Those are his 2020 numbers. They haven't been allowed to talk with him until the last week or two because he played on a franchise tag.
