Please forgive me if all of you are aware of the below, but I thought it might help some on here to look at the numbers according to one source. Browsing the net, I found the handy link below. Not sure how accurate it is but the creator seems to know what he's talking about. It's consistently updates and reflects the new total cap number. http://www.jetscap.com/index.htm Per the website: 2006 NFL SALARY CAP $102,000,000 As Per NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue Press Conference 3/8/06 JETS CURRENT TOP 51 SALARIES $79,841,888 - Only The Top 51 Salaries Count Under The Cap During The Offseason 2006 BASE SALARY $43,643,994 2006 TOTAL SALARY $82,886,138 Cant be sure but it looks like we are approximately $20 million under the cap, including Abraham's cap number of $8.3 million. Hope this helps. Mud PS - Can anyone verify the accuracy of the website and is the website's creator a member of theganggreen family?
I don't know what to think anymore.... Kerry Rhodes at JI says it's 20 under, and I thought 2004 agreed, but now he's saying it isn't. I'm at the point where I don't believe any of these guys anymore... 2004, KR, none of them. It sounds to me like they are throwing darts and backpedaling now. I know it's a lot of guesswork, but to be off by 10 mil? Heck, i can do that without any calculations.... just throw a dart.
It has to be somewhere in the 15 to 20 million range. Before the original deadline was extended we were just below the cap. Since then the cap has gone up 7.5 million, so we are 7.5 under. The Chad restructured saving 6 million, so we are 13.5 million under. Mawae was cut which saved 1.5 million so we are 15 million under. Kendall restructured saving about 2.5 million. That brings us to a grand total of atleast 17.5 million under the cap. Now, how far under we were before the original deadline is uncertain, so we could be several million more under, but we can safely say 17.5 million under. Abe's tag does, in fact, count (read the CBA at the NFLPA website, I believe its page 97 or 98) so when he is traded it saves another 8 million(someone who has minimum salary then counts which is why it saves 8 not 8.3). However, the money saved by trading Abe will become the rookie pool. So for all intensive purpose we are atleast 17.5-18 million under the cap.
www.wissearch.net/jets/default.aspx It's a little more accurate on a few guys.. We're not 20 under.. I ahve it about 18.5, but reports say about 15-17 so we'll see
I agreed when I heard the cap was going to be 104M... it's going to be 102M, so I'm sticking with 18.5 for now. I am thinking it may be a little less from everything I'm reading in the papers though.
