Trade: Jets informed former Chiefs’ WR Mecole Hardman that he is being sent back to Kansas City in another late-round draft pick swap, per sources. — Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) October 18, 2023
makes sense eh? The offense is struggling and we want to make the playoffs. lets trade a talented offensive player to the team we would likely play if we made it
Who knows, maybe we'll be good next year and it turns out to be 20 spots or so--we probably still have to pay the signing bonus and that was 2.5mm. That's obviously not worth 20 spots between rd 6 and 7.
This was an absolute botch. I understand that things change drastically when you go from Aaron Rodgers to Zach Wilson but there’s no way in hell you can tell me Hardman wouldn’t have been a better option to have on the field even if he wasn’t being targeted over Randall Cobb. The logic is that Gipson is doing the exact same thing and for way less money and he’s younger… I totally agree with that and I’m happy about that but that doesn’t absolve the team of a ton of blame. when it’s all said and done we basically paid $2 million to move up what will likely amount to about 10 or 15 draft spots. Garbage. I guess the silver lining is they got out of the contract before they owed him any more money but still, terrible look from top to bottom.
I don't understand trading away our only other speed receiver. If Garrett goes down we will have no deep threat. But we freed up 2 million so maybe we have plans on signing someone. Maybe a guard?
wouldn’t count on it. This was a make-good move. They wanted to do right by Hardman while also being able to recoup something of value even if it’s close to nothing.
Word is that it was because he didn’t want to play special teams. I rewatched some of the game yesterday and Cobb dropped two balls (one was real bad and the other was slightly behind but almost led to an interception). He also looked like he ran a crossing route right into coverage that the ball was under thrown on. He’s been dreadful.
if it’s true that he didn’t want to play special teams then good riddance. I can’t imagine that was something that wasn’t brought up at all during the free agent visit and contract negotiation. But if that’s true, like I said, see ya. And yea Cobb is awful. Hurting the team every time he touches the field outside of one 2pt conversion.
I wish we at least got him on the field but I don’t think it was some big swing and miss. We barely paid him anything and there was no one else in his range or below that would’ve had a needle moving result. I still don’t get the Jets refusing to even play him before dealing him though. It’s not like we have a deep receiving corps.
