http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2668613 The Bengals have the last playoff spot right now. They beat the Jets in the tiebreaker. They are 5-3 in conference while the Jets are 5-4. Not too bad.
im pretty sure the jets control their own destiny. If they go 4-0 and the other teams have to play each other a couple of times i think we can sneak in with a 10-6 or 11-5 record. cinci has yet to play denver jax has to play kc. that will guaranteed eliminate two of the 4 contenders, as for the other 2 teams, all of them play reasonably tough games against either ne, indy, sandiego, or baltimore where as we have to beat buff, mia, minn, and oakland. There is no such thing as a sure thing in the nfl but we are by far in the best position of any of the 7-5 teams. WHO WOULD HAVE THUNK IT??? WAY BACK IN APRIL DURING THE DRAFT, WITH PENNY IN REHAB, WITH CMART ON THE OPERATING TABLE, AFTER LOSING ABRAHAM, Who the hell in their right mind could have told me the jets control their own destiny in december. if we do in fact go 11-5 and win all four of our games whose to say we cant beat indy, or sd but lets take 1 game at a time and enjoy some jets football
There are five AFC teams with a 7-5 record, all fighting for the two wild card spots. Everyone else either has at least 9 wins or no more than 5 wins, so it's a pretty safe bet at this point that the wild card qualifiers are in that group. It will probably also come down to two or three-way ties, so getting all worked up over the tiebreakers now is probably not worth the effort.
5 (7-5) Teams Schedules from now on: Next Week: Indianapolis at Jacksonville Baltimore at Kansas City Oakland at Cincinnati Denver at San Diego Buffalo at New York Week 15: New York at Minnesota Jacksonville at Tennessee Kansas City at San Diego Denver at Arizona Cincinnati at Indianapolis Week 16: Kansas City at Oakland New England at Jacksonville Cincinnati at Denver New York at Miami Week 17: Oakland at New York Pittsburgh at Cincinnati Jacksonville at Kansas City San Francisco at Denver This looks promising.
Actually, head to head only counts when there are two teams tied or if their are three teams tied and one team has either lost to both other teams or one team has beaten both other teams. Since the Jets haven't played everyone else (other than Jax) that they would be tied with head to head would not come into play. The way I read it if the season actually ednded today (which is really not a good barometer beacuse not everyone has played the same amount of division / conference games) the Jets would be in the playoffs. Divsion ties have to be figured out first prior to wildcard ties so KC would get the second place nod in the AFC West over Denver because of a better division record. Then the Bengals and the Jets would get in because they have the best conference records (5-3 and 5-4) over Jax (4-4) and KC (3-5).
There is no doubt that we can go 10-6 maybe 11-5 but the two games that are scaring me are the Bills game(thankfully at home) and the Christmas night game at Miami. 11-5 should guarantee us a spot while we may still have a good chance at 10-5.
Me too. Both teams have been playing better recently. Although Miami looked bad today. One game at a time.......I really wish we had won that Browns game....or that Colts game.
Indianapolis at Jacksonville Baltimore at Kansas City Denver at San Diego IF THERE IS EVER A WEEK TO GAIN A GAME AND TAKE A STEP FORWARD INTO THE PLAYOFFS THIS IS THE WEEK. we need the 12th man rocking the meadowlands this sunday. Im telling you guys, last season totally brought out the worst of being a jet fan and honestly put all of us down to the point where rebuilding was expected for a 3-4 year period. Here we are, 1 season later, thick in the afc playoff hunt with a new coaching staff, rookies playing important roles, and a qb with an arm hangin on by a thread with a chance to control our own destiny. This scenario truly displays the joy about being a jets fan and yes if history proves anything we will lose the 1 game we need to make it in but with mangini at the helm and a clean slate erasing all past demons, this team has the chance to rewrite its own histroy and reputation. All i ask for you guys on this board, those calling for chads head, those getting on vilma, people who rip nugent, and d-rob for all their shortcomings, LEts drop all the negativity and rally behind our boys! Weve had the most entertaining season of any team in the nfl and with the giants collapsing well have the back pages of this town by tuesday. The writers will start to pay attention, the national media will take notice, these jets are for real and theyre hungry, a team that is hungry and coached with discipline and great gameplanning is the most dangerous proposition for an opponent every sunday. Dating back to the patriots game weve won 3 out of 4 and if you go beyond that the jets have won 5 out of our last 7 games. The numbers alone dictate that well be making a run towards the playoffs and if we do make, no body in the afc will want to face this team.
I'm so pumped up for the game this week. Our last game against BUF could have been disastrous. Parrish had that weird play to start the game. McGahee ran all over us. Our defense is MUCH better now. We live and die with Chad. The crowd WILL be rockin, people realize that this team has the chance to do something special. J-E-T-S
If the season were to end today, the Bengals would be the #5 and the Jets the #6 seed. When 3 or more teams are tied, divisional records are used to eliminate teams until there is only one from each division. KC has the better divisional record than the Broncos, so the Broncos would be out of the analysis. Step 2 is the conference record analysis, which the Bengals would then win out on. After that, I think you redo both steps, except now the Bengals already have the 5th seed, so you look at the next best conference record, which is us.
The crowd will be rocking from 5:00 in the first quarter to half time. And from 9:30 to go in the 3rd to the end.
As Of Now: Jets Are In This is how it breaks down. We have 5 teams at 7-5 for the two wildcard spots. In this scenario, head-to-head wins are thrown out the window. Now to the first factor. Division cases are sorted out first. Kansas City knocks Denver from the equation. This happens because the Chiefs have split with Denver, and hold a better divisional record (3-1 to 3-2). Therefore, the Chiefs are in the four-team tie and the Broncos are out. Now, the next thing is AFC record. Jacksonville | 4-4 Cincinnati | 5-3 Kansas City | 3-5 New York Jets | 5-4 The Jets and Bengals would grade out as the best two teams, and hold the two wildcard spots. __________________
Seems to me that we would probably get in with 10 wins, especially if the lone loss comes against Minnesota... the sole remaining NFC team on our schedule. These other 7-5 teams have much tougher schedules. I don't see Denver or KC getting 10 wins. Jax's schedule is brutal. Cincy is AT Indy and Denver yet.... I'd hate to push it, but I can see one 9-7 team getting the last spot. 10 wins will be enough, unless two teams just get ridiculously hot.
Either way, could we have asked for anything more? I'm so amped that we'll have football to watch in December that means something. Last year was rough man. I can't believe how much I missed having competitive football. I'm so amped right now
