solid newsbreak, @NOVAJET. Sounds like everyone expects a deal to be finalized without too much hassle, which is good news bc I like Crowder.
sounds like an extension. no complaint from me. can't have enough depth at WR and if he's willing to take on 2 more years at 6mil-ish a year i'd be happy
@GasedAndConfused exactly what I was thinking, GAC. Seems like just a matter of time until a deal is reached and he is back out on the field.
we need to get him and maye locked down. plus we have room this year to front load the deals and they will be cheap in future years. and they get paid more upfront so everyone is happy
Maye especially, I love Crowder but at 10mill... If he doesn't take a cut or restructure I think he's gone. Cole and Moore have turned heads at camp.
actually, looking it over, I think it may be a pay cut. he signed a 3 year deal worth 9.5 mil average but that was from mac not JD. Mind you no complaints from me, it was easily the best contract mac handed out in free agency for us. anyway we back loaded it and he's due a 10 mil salary this season 0 guaranteed. If we cut him we save 10 mil off the cap with only 1 mil in dead money (3 mil signing bonus spread on 3 years) so JD may be asking him to take a cut to stay a jet. since we have davis, mims, and moore plus cole pretty cheap this year and the fact at this point if we released him crowder would be lucky to get anywhere near 10 mil from a team, JD may be asking him to reduce his salary to around 6ish or be released. then the saved money can be used to resign maye. This is speculation on my part but seems right and i'm sure JD has a plan
Crowder is a terrific safety blanket for a young QB. I think the Jets would want to keep him around. At the end of the day the Jets have the leverage here. Crowder is not getting anywhere close to $10.5MM on the open market (especially this late in the cycle). Hopefully the two parties can come to an agreement on a fair deal. I think Crowder is worth overpaying a bit given the situation with Wilson. Mims can’t seem to ever get on the practice field let alone play well on Sundays and you don’t want to put too much on Moore’s plate as a rookie.
Make it another three year contract (including this year) for $21 mil - 8, 7, 6. Guarantee next year and make the third year easily cuttable.
I like Crowder, but now that we have Moore, I don't see much point in keeping Crowder around for 2 more years. By next year Moore should be the starter, and could even wind up being the starter this year. IMO that's a lot of money to pay a backup slot WR, especially when we have Berrios.
Neither party would do that. Crowder is 28 and probably hoping to get one more contract next year that will pay him than 15 over 2. Jets just drafted his replacement and have no room for him past him being a dependable target for the rookie qb. Right now crowders agent is working the back channels and seeing what he can get if he was on the open market and using that as a base for how much of a haircut crowder is willing to take. Douglas is probably trying to find out what he could get for him if they can’t work anything out.
They could reach an agreement and end up trading Crowder in August depending on how they feel about the rest of our WRs and if another team suffers some injuries.
