For the lazy folk CORTLAND, N.Y. -- The Jets claimed Rutgers product Kevin Brock off waivers Monday from the Carolina Panthers after waiving journeyman tight end Richard Owens. Brock, a two-year starter at TE for the Scarlet Knights, had 49 passes for 541 yards and four touchdowns in his college career. The 6-5, 255-pound Hackensack native had 26 catches for 300 yards as senior last year.
So, he couldn't make the Panthers, who have complete garbage at tight end on their roster? It's okay though...he went to Rutgers!
Our TE depth chart behind Keller is absolutely pathetic. I highly doubt the Panthers depth is comparable to ours.
In my opinion, there's is worse. Dante Rosario, Gary Barnidge, and Jeff King? King is a decent blocker and an option on shorter, underneath routes...but he's not a starter. Rosario is pretty big, but he can't block and he has a jerry curl. Jerry curls automatically make you suck. Supposedly, Gary Barnidge is going to start. He has a grand total of zero catches in the NFL. I'll take a fast, big time receiving threat and a couple of UDFAs over a bunch of slow, mediocre blockers. * This just in: Panthers claimed our worst UDFA tight end, Andrew Davie, off of waivers...
Let's not give up on this Jack Simmons yet, the UDFA TE from Minnesota. I really like everything I've heard about this kid. A strong blocking TE will free up Keller even more and it looks like Simmons has got a good chance to fill this role.
