*Jets trade down 1x *Jets trade Abe for a 2nd this year (playing it safely...will probably be more though) *Jets receive comp picks in 3rd and 7th round (I got these picks from that guy that projects comp picks on his forum- hes usually right) 1-TE Vernon Davis Dont need to say much, but hed provide a much needed upgrade to our very anemic passing offense. A rare prospect indeed 2-OG Max Jean-GillesThe most important thing about him is that he can instantly start. I see him at guard and Kendall at center, because even if we draft a rookie center, I honestly dont see him contributing immediately. Kendall at center is a risk, but its our only option. MJG starts at guard and will pave huge holes for our RBs. 2-C Nick Mangold Some people think he wont be available this late. I disagree. Hes not the superstar prospect many are making him out to be. Heck, a little while ago he wasnt even the #1 rated center in the draft!! NOT a first round prospect IMO. Itll take him a year to learn the calls, so he sits behind Kendall in 06, and starts in 07. 2-RB Joseph Addai Big LSU fan here, and Ive been high on Addai for a while now. Some scouts even rate him above DeAngelo Williams....though I wouldnt go that far, I think hes the type of back that would fit well here. Supposedly we're gonna give Martin one more year, and look towards RB in the 2nd or 3rd round. At this point Addai would be the best RB available. He has solid hands and would provide Pennington with a good option out of the backfield. With an improved oline he might even surpass Martin on the depth chart. Oh yeah, the 4.3 he ran at the combine dosent hurt either. 3-OT Andrew Whitworth IMO a very similar player to Kareem McKenzie. Both were mauling run blockers, but IMO Whitworth is more athletic and a better pass blocker. Could probably step in and start immediately. 3-CB/RM Devin Hester People have him going from as early as round 2 and as late as the 5th. In all honesty I see him as a late day 1 prospect. Had a relatively poor combine (from what people were expectin of him, that is), and though he did somewhat redeem himself at Miami's pro day, I cant see him going any higher do to his lack of experience. 4-3-4 OLB Darryl Tapp Has a motor that never quits, and though he has a relatively short, stocky frame, and even though he dosent really have great timed speed, you never discount a guy with this much heart. Great college production and could do well in the right scheme (ie the 3-4) 4-3-4 DE Barry Cofield With Kimo Von Oelhoffen likely headed to NY, Cofield rides the bench and learns from the best of the best how to play DE in the 3-4. In a few years hell be ready to start, but for now, he learns the tricks of the trade. 5-FB Matt Bernstein A good blocking FB that would complement Askew's receiving skills well 6-WR Skyler Green 4th string receiver 7-LB Anthony Schlegal ILB depth behind Vilma and Hobson. 7-LB Pierre Woods More LB depth, so essential for the 3-4. 7-DE Melvin Oliver Relatively undersized at end for the 3-4, but give him some time and I think he could eventually develop into a quality backup, once he learns technique and packs on a few pounds. Rate away!!
This would be a very good draft. Our O-line would be solid and we get some weapons on offense with Addai and Davis. One of the better ones I have seen.
That would be a nice draft, but I wouldn't love it, to be honest. Only because I don't think we should take Giles and Mangold, BOTH, because then we have a dilemma at the C/G positions with Kendall, Moore, Giles, Mangold. We just signed Kendall to an extension, so he will be here a while. Same with Moore. So either Giles or Mangold will be forced to the bench, and you don't want a second round pick on the bench, or Moore would be forced to the bench and Kendall would have to play a position he's less comfortable at, center. I don't mind taking two OL, but it should be either a tackle and guard (Kendall at C) or a guard and center (Kendall at guard.) As for Vernon Davis, I'd love to get him, but we have bigger needs than TE and there are some decent TEs in free agency. I do want us to draft a RB a lot, but only if it's one of the big 4. I haven't seen much of Addai personally, but I don't think he'd be much of an upgrade over Curtis/Blaylock/Houston for now; while Bush, Williams, White, Maroney could come in, start, and contribute immediately. Whitworth's a solid tackle, he'd be a good pick in round 3. I really like some of your later picks, especially Tapp and Green. Overall, think 3 OL first three rounds is overdoing it a bit, and we have bigger needs than TE, even though adding Davis would be the best person in this draft for Chad to throw to. I would also be very upset if we got nothing less than a first for Abe, so I'd probably be pissed about that too.
Mangold won't be available. He'll be taken by the Steelers at 32 or Saints at 34 for sure. Also who's our 3-4 DT? Since when is Kimo Von Whatever likely headed to the Jets? He visited us guys that doesn't mean anything at this time.
What I was trying to say before with Kendall, Gilles, and Mangold, is that EVEN if we draft Mangold, I dont think he can step right in and start. Rookie centers seldom do. Chris Spencer was drafted in the first round last year by Seattle and didnt start a single game. So unless we sign a center in FA, I see Kendall under center. So that would leave a hole at guard...where Gilles can step in and start, and not only just get the job done, but have great success doing it. I dont know if my first post was clear explaining this...hopefully this one is
I doubt Tapp will be available in the 4th round. Kid was a monster at Tech. ALways around the football. & I don't think we'll take a TE with our first pick (although VD is nice)
Kid WAS a monster, but his stock isnt as high as other players at his position because people have questions how well his game will translate to the pros, expecially when his size, frame, and speed is quite different than that of the prototypical DE. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think hes a 3rd-4th rd prospect, but will end up outperforming that value
Spencer didn't start because Robbie Tobeck was playing excellent football all season. Nick Hardwick and Jef Faine started right out of the gate, as did Jake Grove, though he played Guard much of his first season. Mangold is as good, probably better than all those guys as a prospect, absolutely no reason why he wouldn't start, and allow Kendell to play his natural guard position. As for Tapp, I can't see him falling out of the 2nd round. He's a lot closer to the big 3 at DE than he is to the rest of the class. He might not be prototype size, but he's a playmaker. In terms of talent, besides a small handful of guys at the top, no other DE's can touch him.
We really dont need the tight end 1st round, right because we have Jolley and Baker so we could probably go with a CB or OL 1st if it plays out.
