Free Agency: ILB Dont'a Hightower- (4 years 44 M) Brings leadership and a winning attitude. CB Brendon Flowers- (1 year 6.5 M) One year prove it deal. Josh McCown- (2 years 11M) A stop gap QB to fill in while Hackenburg continues to develop Cuts: David Harris- Saves 7M Trade: Sheldon Richardson and a 2018 conditional pick to the Cowboys 1st (28th overall) The conditional pick is contingent upon Richardson resigning with the cowboys in 2018. If Richardson resigns with the Cowboys they will receive a 3rd round pick from the Jets, if he doesn't they will receive a 2nd. This is a fair trade according to the draft value chart and a win for both teams. The cowboys get a stud DT and the Jets get a building block in the deepest draft in years. Draft 1st- Browns- Miles Garett 2nd- San Fransisco- Mitchell Trubisky 3rd- Bears- Jonathan Allen 4th- Jaguars- Malik Hooker 5th- Titans- Solomon Thomas, 1st round Trade Jets #6 overall to Arizona for their 1st and 2nd Cardinals could use an upgrade at their #2 CB across from Peterson and with Sidney Jones Injury it is unlikely either Lattimore or Humphrey is there at #13. 1st- #13 O.J. Howard TE 6'6 TE with excellent speed and big play ability. Will fill the TE void and is the best player on the board 1st- #28 (From Cowboys) TJ Watt OLB TJ Watt is not just JJ Watt's brother or someone who blew up the combine. He is a quick twitch (6.79 3 cone) player who had 56 pressures with 11.5 sacks 2nd- #38 Obi Melifonwu FS This 6'4 FS destroyed the combine running a 4.4 40 with a 44 inch vertical. He showed at senior bowl that he has the skills to cover the deep half of the field. He's also not afraid to lay the lumber and totaled 116 tackles in 2016. 2nd- #45 (From Cardinals) Jourdan Lewis CB 24 pass break ups in last 2 seasons which leads college football. https://www.profootballfocus.com/draft-are-the-jets-the-perfect-fit-for-michigans-jourdan-lewis/ 3rd- #73 Kevin King CB This guy was a combine superstar and honestly might be over drafted because of it. Luckily for the Jets he may still drop to the 3rd because of how deep this class of CBs is. At 6'3 200 lbs King ran 4.44 40, 6.56 3 cone, and a 39.5 inch vertical. He was part of the best secondary in college football last year which lead Washington to the playoffs. Sidney Jones gets all the credit but King totaled 3 picks and 5 breakups last year. 3rd- Compensation Ryan Glasgow NT Excellent run stuffer and has excellent quickness.. Currently he is undersized for NFL NT at 302 but an NFL training program can get him up to 315 in no time.
You do realize that there is another unit on a football team? It's called "Offense". But you're probably right - the Jets will continue to believe that "Defense wins championships", forgetting that it's offense that gets you there.
I don't have a problem so much with the positions picked but there is no way Dallas will give up their 1st rounder for Richardson....heavy on the secondary which is a need since it appears FA will not yield much. Howard starts opening day and TE has been a need for years. Not a bad draft but obviously a lot of work remains....
I basically like it except for a couple of things. One, with the exception of Howard in the 1st round, you totally ignore the offense. That should not happen. Two, the Jets don't need an NT. They also have needs at OT, C, RB, #1 WR, and OG depth. I love the Howard, Melifonwu, Lewis and maybe the Watt picks. King sounds good too. More has to be done to help the offense however. Now if you were to say that you would take a C or backup OG in the 5th round, that would make it a little more palatable, but the Jets really need to add a RB in a BIG way. If they don't sign Hightower, they need an ILB.
