FA pickups: Albert Hansworth: albert has had a great year at getting to the QB hes has become a pass rushing beast. its his contract year and he is going to want a huge deal and i dont see the titans giving him one. so i see him testing the FA market and i thnk the jets will splurge and sign him. Stacy Andrews: we need desparte oline help and this guy could fll the LG spot. he is going to want some money but i dont think he is going to go crazy and trying to get a crazy amount of money. Randall Gay: he would be a decent pick up and would probably take over the number 2 spot. Draft 1. Darren Mcfadden: we need a franchise player some one to build a team around. darren mcfadden will bring his amazing skills to the table day in and day out. when they talk about RB tadems him and jones will be the first ones to be mentioned. DMC will help us win the AFC east title for years to come. 2. Jeff Otah: we still need Olne help after pickng up andrews and otah will hold down the RT spot and fill all the needs on the jets oline and give us good oline unit for years to come. 3. Shawn Crable: getting hansworth will help our pass rush but we need some pass rush from the corners and crable will help fix that problem. our LB coach loves michgan LBSand crable is a good 3-4 olb prospect so look for us to trade up or something so we can take this kid in the draft.
i dont see why albert would want here in an unfamiliar 3-4 though i like him but he is too goood in the 4-3 to wanna come here.
i dont really trust haynesworth to tell you the truth. i feel he is only playing his ass off for a large contract
Unless Albert feels like curb stomping Tom Brady like he did that other guy, he's not going to help us.
Albert's getting kinda old, and I agree he's only playing hard right now because it's a contract year. I'd love McFadden, but I don't think he'll fall to us. Gay would be a good signing, I'll take anyone from the pats.
Haynesworth is 26, not exactly old. He would be a great signing but seeing as how their D goes from good with him to below average without him I would say there is no way Tenn lets him go anywhere. Otherwise I would sign for that offseason right now.
I'm not down on Haynesworth because of his attitude, the fact that he's playing for a large contract and because he doesn't fit the 3-4. I do agree that ultimately, if he's there, you don't pass on Run DMC and worry about the rest of the problems later in the draft. Knowing Tangini, we'll trade up to get into the first round again or multiple picks in the 2nd round.
Based on my belief that McFadden will not be there when we pick, even if we have the 2nd pick.... Miami needs so much help they should trade the #1 for numerous picks or they should draft McFadden - the play maker they deparately need who would immediately ease the burden placed on Beck while he develops. Hey it's worked for Minnesota. See how Tavaris Jackson is progressing knowing that it doesn't all ride on his shoulders....my draft would be.... 1. Chris Long. Not only a character guy but he offers Tangini's other requirement versatility. He is 6'4' 270lbs, but I AGREE HE IS NOT AN EVERYDOWN NFL LINEMAN.. Long's best attributes are his motor, smarts, speed and hands. So let's imagine a 6.4" 270lb OLB, that has 4.7 speed, and knows how to shed blocks going after the QB EVERY down...Those qualities DO NOT come around too often. As far as him dropping into coverage. WHO CARES!! Wade Phillips (Dallas HC) said it perfectly. "Give me a guy who is relentless at rushing the QB on every down and I will find a way to cover his area of the field with the other 10 players)...in other words pure pass rushers don't come around very often, especially with the size and attributes that Long has going for him. IMO.. A no brainer pick, based on my assumption that McFadden is gone already.. One last thing. Mark Gastineau could ONLY rush the passer and it worked out damn well for the Jets Defense all those years. #2. Adarius Bowman - Okla. St. 6'4" 220lbs. and runs a 4.5. Besides his size and speed the kid runs pass routes. It's not straight line speed like Limas Sweed. I could also be talked into Early Doucett here, but for some reason I'm not 100% sold on him as a pro WR. We need depth at this position in the worst way...If Chaucney can come back healthy and with more development by Brad Smith I would like our WR core. 3. Red Bryant. 6' 2'' 320+ lbs. Texas A&M. The beast in the middle. This would also allow Robertson to move outside and be a situatonal pass rushing DE, using Coleman on running downs. Having Long and Robertson rushing from the same side excites me...Bryant and Pouha would also make a nice tandem in the middle. Pouha has played really well at NG the last 3+ weeks. FREE AGENTS: Asante Samuel - If Long is the pass rusher I believe he will be, the play of 2 shut down corners, Samuel and Revis (how good is he going to be with a year of training camp under his belt) + Rhodes + Elam, Smith will make this a defense to be reckoned with... I'm too like Stacy Andrews, but would be just as happy with Faneca.
Jets rank 10th most in cap room for 2008, so its time to spend a little dough. Keep in mind that we have to lock up Kerry Rhodes for the long term this offseason. Free Agents; 1) T. Suggs OLB Baltimore Ravens ---- the big fish. 2) Ethan Kelley NT Cleveland Browns (rotation w/Sione Pouha – I agree has been playing much better the past few weeks). 3) 1 or 2 of the following O-linemen; Jacob Bell (Tennessee Titans), Justin Smiley (San Fran), Jake Scott (Indy Colts), Stacy Andrews (Cincy Bengals) --- Faneca will cost way too much – the guy is GREAT, but we need to spread the $$ around. 4) Randall Gay CB (New England PATS) Shaun Ellis needs to go. If we get Kelley to rotate w/Pouha at NT, move D. Rob to the outside, then Ellis must go ---- traded for draft pick.
Sign Haynesworth Sign Suggs Sign Smiley Trade out of the #3 overall spot for a teams late 1st and 3rd and next years 1st. Draft a RT with the 1st round pick, then go BPA for the rest. DL - Ellis, Haynesworth, Robertson LB - Thomas, Vilma, Harris, Suggs DB - Revis, Rhodes, Smith, Dyson OL - Ferguson, Smiley, Mangold, Moore, Rookie That's alot to ask if the FA market, but those moves make this team competitive in 2008 rather than 2010.
I like the idea of trading down to get more picks -- the best scenario would be to trade down as low as possible to ensure getting RT Gosder Chelius from Boston College w/the 1st round pick. But Haynesworth scares the s--t out of me ----- this dude is a paycheck player. Once he gets that new contract, its bye-bye Sally.
My ideal offseason: #1 - Draft Glenn Dorsey or McFaddon (whichever is on the board, Dorsey to play DE) #2 - Sign Asante Samuel (may leave since he can't be franchised) #3 - Sign or draft a solid WR to play the slot. (Stucky is not the answer) #4 - As much as it bothers me to pay money like this, sign Terrell Suggs or another OLB to go opposite Thomas. #5 - Retain Vilma, Barton, Hobson. Barton should roate at ILB with Vilma based on whether a run or pass situation, he probably won't be ready to start the year. Hobson will rotate in at LBer. #6 - Retain Ellis/Coleman, why get rid of our deph at DE? Still not sure on what to do though.
He's a 26 year old player who is just now having his breakout season which coincidently happens to be during his contract year. I wouldn't complain if we picked him up for a moderatley reasonable price, but if we blow some insane amount of money based soley on his performance this year I would be very upset.
He can't finish a game...he takes A LOT of plays off, but when he goes, he goes hard and he can kill the quarterback.
Hardy's in play if he declares. FWIW, Rivals/Yahoo has us taking James Laraunitis and a Vanderbilt WR in the early second.
That Vandy receiver is probably Earl Bennett, and he is a GREAT receiver, that was on a bad team. He was Jay Cutler's favorite target while he was at Vandy. I still think that Hardy would be a better pick, mainly because of his size. We haven't had a jump ball receiver in a long time.
