As a season ticket holder, I just got the 2005 Season Review, and was impressed. Frank and candid, it's a darksider's dream, acknowledging the misery and disappointment in a 4-12 season rather than highlighting individual performances at select games and ignoring the rest, as I've seen in past bad seasons. Also, it's a good layout, an easy read, engaging (well, as engaging as it can be, given the subject matter) with a lot of excellent action photos and some revealing comments by two of my favorite current Jets, Curtis Martin and Jonathan Vilma. Also, Wayne is on the cover, in his typical Popeye mode, and that's perfect.
"This has been a very tumultuous year for us, probably the most difficult, the most down year that I've ever been a part of. I appreciate my coaches and my teammates because we suffered through it and continued to make progress as a team. Nobody pointed any fingers. We have the makings of a great team here." - Curtis Martin "It doesn't matter how hard you try. It's about winning and losing, and today we lost." - Jonathan Vilma, after Week 3 against Jacksonville (20-26) "All you can ask is to have the ball in your hands with a chance to win. I did, we did - I just didn't get it done." Brooks Bollinger after Week 9 against SD (26-31) "It's almost unbelievable. You sit there and say: 'This is not happening.' It seems like it didn't stop." Curtis Martin after Week 10 against Carolina (3-30) These are the lift-out quotes, too, the one the review editors chose to highlight. I'm used to the Jets putting out ridiculously positive spins on past bad seasons, that insult your intelligence. Here, you get a sense of the team owning up to its faults.
I love these quotes, escpecially the end of Martin's.....We have the makings of a great team here." - Curtis Martin
