I wanted to wait until the end of next week or so, but I had a couple of new ideas and wanted to make another one.. 1. Detroit: Matt Stafford QB: Some say they’re looking at Eugene Monroe or Jason Smith, but that could be a huge mistake. 2. St. Louis: Jason Smith OT: This athletic tackle has the most upside and looks a prototypical fit at left tackle. 3. Kansas City: Aaron Curry LB: Possibly the draft’s top prospect, Curry could fit at ILB in either the 3-4 or 4-3 scheme and could even project outside. 4. Seattle: Mark Sanchez QB: With DT Cory Redding on board, TJ Houshmandzadeh opposite Deion Branch and a handful of good young prospects at WR, the Hawks’ can wait on a WR but instead take their QB of the future as he can sit and prepare behind Matt Hasselbeck, who might still have a couple of good years ahead of him. 5. Cleveland: Michael Crabtree WR: This team literally has no WRs opposite Braylon Edwards, who’s rumored to be on the trading block. Joe Jurevicious was cut, TE Kellen Winslow was traded and Donte Stallworth will be going to prison for vehicular manslaughter. Ouch… This team has plenty of other needs, but Crabtree is arguably the draft’s best player and this team needs some offensive firepower. 6. Cincinnati: BJ Raji DT: This massive nose-tackle is also an explosive pass-rusher and would really improve this defense immediately. 7. Oakland: Brian Orakpo DE: Al Davis gets his workout warrior here in Orakpo, but he also had a great career at Texas. 8. Jacksonville: Jeremy Maclin WR: Also needing serious help at WR with Matt Jones “blowing” his last chance with another drug felony is the Jacksonville. 9. Green Bay: Eugene Monroe OT: An outstanding value here, Monroe could start immediately at RT for 33 year old free agent Mark Tauscher and eventually supplant fellow aging LT Chad Clifton in the near future. 10. San Francisco: Michael Oher OT: It seems Oher’s stock has been dropping a bit, but the 49ers take a chance on this ultra-talented tackle since Mark Sanchez is gone and they need offensive line help in worst way. 11. Buffalo: Everette Brown DE: The Bills get a nice value here with arguably the best pass-rusher in the draft. 12. Denver: Malcolm Jenkins DB: Jenkins is simply too good of a player to pass up here. Whether he helps at safety or cornerback, the Broncos need secondary help and Jenkins has the versatility and talent to help immediately. 13. Washington: Aaron Maybin DE: The Redskins don’t want to invest too much money into OT Andre Smith since he hasn’t invested any effort in showing he wants to be a good player this offseason. Maybin could provide a situational pass rush off the edge immediately, even if he doesn’t start. 14. New Orleans: Brian Cushing LB: With only starter set in stone with Jonathan Vilma, the versatile Cushing should cement another spot here and can play multiple positions. 15. Houston: Vontae Davis DB: A tough spot to project, the Texans opt for one of the BPA here with Davis, who can help at safety as well. 16. San Diego: Tyson Jackson DE: With Igor Olshanky a Cowboy, the Chargers need immediate help at DE and Jackson is a natural fit in the 3-4 and looks more ready to start from Week one then Jarron Gilbert. 17. NY Jets: Jarron Gilbert DE: Shaun Ellis had a good season, but is entering his tenth in 2009. Kenyon Coleman is also 30 and is just a solid run-defender. Depth is OK, but Gilbert is an explosive player with the potential to be a terrific fit in the 3-4 and work in the rotation until starting eventually. 18. Chicago: Josh Freeman QB: The Bears may say they like Kyle Orton, but they could use an insurance policy. Freeman has plenty of question marks, but has the type of arm necessary to knife through games in the Windy City. Even if Orton emerges and becomes their guy, the trade value here would be spectacular (Think Phillip Rivers – Drew Brees) 19. Tampa Bay: Evander Hood DT: The Bucs need help at DT badly and Hood is a prospect on the rise. Look for him to go ahead of Peria Jerry, who has injury woes. 20. Detroit (f/ Dal.): William Beatty OT: A popular pick here, Beatty looks like a prototypical left tackle. 21. Philadelphia: Knowshon Moreno RB: A better player than Chris Wells, Moreno is short on timed speed, but is a complete back that also has power. 22. Minnesota: Eben Britton OT: This run-blocking tackle might be a better fit on the right side for now, but he should be able to open up more holes for Adrian Peterson. 23. New England: Connor Barwin OLB/DE: This TE/OLB/DE prospect looks like a natural fit in New England, where former TE/OLB/DE Mike Vrabel was just traded from. His Pro Day 4.49 40-time might propel him higher than this though. 24. Atlanta: Clay Matthews LB: The versatile and emerging Matthews can play at any LB position and is a special team demon. 25. Miami: Sean Smith DB: Smith could fit at either safety or cornerback and the Dolphins could use a little help at each spot. 26. Baltimore: Rey Maualuga ILB: Injury concerns are the leading cause of his fall, which could end up being further on draft day. However, the Ravens need help at ILB since Bart Scott is a Jet and Ray Lewis is entering his 14th pro season. 27. Indianapolis: Peria Jerry DT: A nice value and an ideal fit, the Colts will waste no time here if Peria Jerry is around. 28. Philadelphia (f/ Car.): Louis Delmas S: This under-the-radar safety could go even higher than this. 29. NY Giants: Percy Harvin WR/HB: The Giants get running-back and wide receiver help here with Harvin who might be just what they’re looking for. 30. Tennessee: Alphonso Smith CB: The Titans will be looking for a starter opposite Cortland Finnegan sooner than later since Nick Harper is 35. 31. Arizona: Donald Brown RB: This emerging prospect is even tearing it up in interviews. Brown is a nice complement to Tim Hightower’s power running style. 32. Pittsburgh: Alex Mack C: A terrific value here, Mack should start from Day one at center or could even play guard. 33. Detroit: Jarius Byrd DB 34. New England: Max Unger OL 35. St. Louis: Hakeem Nicks WR 36. Cleveland: Chris Wells RB 37. Seattle: LeSean McCoy RB 38. Cincinnati: Robert Ayers DE 39. Jacksonville: Darius Butler CB 40. Oakland: Darrius Heyward-Bey WR 41. Green Bay: Clint Sintim OLB/DE 42. Buffalo: Jared Cook TE 43. San Francisco: DJ Moore CB 44. Miami: Larry English OLB/DE 45. NY Giants: Jonathan Luigs OL 46. Houston: Andy Levitre OL 47. New England: Sherrod Marin DB 48. Denver: Ron Brace NT 49. Chicago: Patrick Chung S 50. Cleveland: Lawrence Sidbury Jr. OLB/DE 51. Dallas: Kenny Britt WR 52. Philadelphia: Phil Loadholt OL 53. NY Jets: Brian Robiskie WR 54. Atlanta: Brandon Pettigrew TE 55. Minnesota: Mike Mickens CB 56. Miami: Juaquin Iglesias WR 57. Baltimore: Kevin Barnes CB 58. New England: Darry Beckwith ILB 59. Carolina: Alex Magee DT 60. NY Giants: Marcus Freeman LB 61. Indianapolis: Shonn Green RB 62. Tennessee: Eric Wood C 63. Arizona: Michael Johnson OLB/DE 64. Pittsburgh: Victor Harris DB 65) Detroit: Paul Kruger DE 66) St. Louis – Rashad Johnson S 67) Kansas City – Antoine Caldwell OL 68) Seattle – Gerald McRath LB 69) Dallas – David Bruton S 70) Cincinnati – Troy Kropog OT 71) Oakland – Andre Smith OL 72) Jacksonville – Nate Davis QB 73) Green Bay –Cornelius Ingram TE 74) San Francisco – Cody Brown OLB/DE 75) Buffalo – James Laurinaitis ILB 76) NY Jets – Andre Brown RB 77) Houston – Rashad Jennings RB 78) San Diego – Emanuel Cook S 79) Denver – James Davis RB 80) Washington – Jamon Meredith OT 81) Tampa Bay –Kevin Ogletree WR 82) Detroit – Shawn Nelson TE 83) Philadelphia – Ramses Barden WR 84) Green Bay – Fili Moala DE 85) Chicago – David Veikune DE 86) Minnesota – Cameron Morrah TE 87) Miami – Trevor Canfield OL 88) Baltimore – Pannel Egboh DE 89) New England – Kory Sheets RB 90) Atlanta – Duke Robinson OL 91) NY Giants – Asher Allen CB 92) Indianapolis – Sammie Stroughter WR 93) Carolina – Michael Bennett DE 94) Tennessee – Zack Follet LB 95) Arizona – Cornelius Lewis OL 96) Pittsburgh – Herman Johnson OL
JETS 1. Jarron Gilbert | DL | San Jose St |: Shaun Ellis had a good season, but is entering his tenth in 2009. Kenyon Coleman is also 30 and is just a solid run-defender. Depth is OK, but Gilbert is an explosive player with the potential to be a terrific fit in the 3-4 and work in the rotation until starting eventually. 2. Brian Robiskie | WR | Ohio St | : With Coles gone, the Jets opt for this big, NFL ready receiver that could start from week one. 3. Andre Brown | RB | NC State |: This power-back also has nice speed and the potential to do better in the pros than in college. Thomas Jones may still have a couple good years left barring a contract dispute, but since this is going to become a running team, more depth and a power runner could be important. 4. TJ Lang | OL | Eastern Michigan |: Perhaps the most underrated lineman in the 2009 draft, Lang can play anywhere on the line from center to tackle and is the tenacious run-blocker this team will be looking for. Look for him to go even higher… 6. Roy Miller | NT | Texas |: This stout nose-tackle specializes against the run and could be a fit in the 3-4. At about 310 pounds, he could stand to add some weight still. Like Lang, Miller could also go higher due to the high demand of nose-tackle types. 7. Julius Williams | OLB/DE | Connecticut|: The “other” Connecticut defensive end opposite Cody Brown, Williams had a productive season and also looks like a prototypical 3-4 OLB. Had a nice 40-time as well… UDFA Prospects: - Antone Smith RB/KR Florida St - Derek Kinder WR Pittsburgh - Bear Pascoe TE Fresno St - Carson Butler TE Michigan - Ryan McKee OL Southern Miss - Juan Garcia C Washington - Jeremy Navarre DE Maryland - Ra’Shon Harris DL Oregon - Antonio Dixon NT Miami - Johnny Williams OLB/DE Kentucky - Kirston Pittman OLB/DE LSU - Dan Skuta OLB/DE Grand Valley St - Wopamo Osaisai CB Stanford - Kevin Huber P Cincinnati - Connor Lee K Pittsburgh
Yuo have Sean Smith and 25 and 33. Outside of that not a lot of holes in this mock. Love your Jets draft.
Some first round rated prospect does every year. The way Laurinaitis has been dropping I could see it being him.
Your Wrong, I really beive he's that good! J/K hehe. Smith is one of my favorite prospects in the draft. If the Jets do not go DE in round one I hope they take him. he has the size and skills to be a truly special DB in the NFL.
Love the mock...especially the first two picks. The only thing I don't like to much is the 3rd and 7th rounder. But, the 3rd round is disputable. I think there will be many 2nd rounders that fall into the 3rd round. I love Lang and Roy Miller though.
Ah, my bad on that. The Lions now draft DB Jarius Byrd at the top of the 2nd while the Ravens go for high-rising CB from Maryland Kevin Barnes
Why? All he can do is block. He's a marginal receiver with no speed. Tight end is a need, but not one of the biggest needs. No need to draft one before the 4th round. The Jets have their starter in Keller, now the team needs depth. A tight end like Bear Pascoe or Anthony Hill will have the same NFL impact as Pettigrew.
I don't think the Chargers will choose Tyson Jackson over Jarron Gilbert. His stock has been skyrocketing.
it really does depend on each individual teams evaluation in the end. sure there are some consensus guys who across the board are tops (see B.J. Raji, Aaron Curry) but there is differing opinions everywhere on the top 3-4 DE. Some guys i have seen still have Jackson rated highest. Some have decided Ziggy Hood has become the #1 guy. Others have Gilbert on top. I have also seen places where Gilberts stock still hasnt really skyrocketed, and still have him late second, early third. Personally i don't see that, I think Gilbert is the top 3-4 DE in the draft, and certainly should be our pick in the First.
U cant really believe Pascoe or Hill will have the same impact as Pettigrew in the NFL.The other 2 are purely backups who will never have much of an impact. Pettigrew is the best overall TE in the class by far and he's a better reciever than u give him credit for. He doesnt have elite speed but he gets open.
I actually do believe that Bear Pascoe will have the same impact as Pettigrew. I'll stick by what I said at the beginning of the 2008 college football season: Bear Pascoe is the best blocking tight end in all of college football. Pascoe can get open too. He's one of the biggest sleepers in this draft. If Jermaine Gresham entered the draft, Pettigrew wouldn't even matter. 2010 is the year to get a tight end: Jermaine Gresham, Dennis Pitta, Aaron Hernandez, Weslye Saunders, Mickey Shuler, Ed Dickson, and Rob Gronkowski. Well, 2010 is the year to get a player at about any position...it will be the best draft since 2001.
Definitely one of the most realistic mocks I've seen on here or anywhere. Great work, PA. I love that Jets draft too, although I might take Jennings over Brown; I'm not really sure there. Robiskie and Gilbert are two of my favorites at the first two slots. I really think that Robiskie would have a first round rating had Terrelle Pryor never been given the reigns at OSU and more balls had been thrown his way. He's not the fastest guy, but he does about everything else well-to-excellent. At 6'3" 209 he's got great size. He might be the smartest reciever in the draft too, which will help his transition to the pros be much quicker. For anyone who hasn't seen his game, here's some highlights from 2007: WW, I know you've usually got the scoop on OSU players; what are your thoughts on Robiskie?
Moby...........You have hit the nail on the head with Robiskie. Pryor hurt his play in 2008 and he was still the leading reciever with 500+ yards. Todd Boeckman in 2007 got the ball to his receivers much more consistently. OSU ran the ball alot in 2008 and Pryor had troble locating his receivers. Was captain of the team and a true leader. A very smart football player that knows how to adjust to the defense, very important in the NFL. Was an excellent special team player in his earlier years at OSU, the staff didn't want to risk injury later in his career and played a limited role. A solid smart player who will be a one of the best #2 receivers in the NFL. Probably an early Rd 2 selection. One of the safest picks in this draft!!!
Thank you all for the feedback. Honestly, I could see Robiskie going in the bottom of the first or the top of the second round while someone like Kenny Britt ends up available at #53. Robiskie is extremely underrated and I agree his value would be higher if Terrelle Pyror wasn't OSU's QB in 2008. Here's another WR to consider at #53: Juaquin Iglesias from Oklahoma. Look him up.. As for one poster's comment with San Diego taking Tyson Jackson over Jarron Gilbert, I see it as a possibility since they have an immediate hole at DE and Tyson Jackson is more NFL ready then Jarron Gilbert. He might need some time in the rotation before he takes on a full role. That's why he's a great fit here. We have solid defensive linemen in Shaun Ellis and Kenyon Coleman. Gilbert would probably be in the rotation with Coleman and Ellis to start and would likely come in on passing situations most likely. Don't discount him playing OLB in some situations either.
I don't like the Jets' 2nd and 3rd round picks, but otherwise (not bothering with the aforementioned Sean Smith magic) it looks like a very good mock. I just can't imagine the Jets passing on Pettigrew and Greene in the second for Robiskie (who I'm not that high on) and in the third, while I like Andre Smith, I think that you can't pass on Robinson and Canfield just sitting there, because there's no way that either of them make it to the Jets' 4th rounder and I can't see the Jets being able to move back up into the 3rd (or wanting to, with the 4th rounder luck) to grab either of them. If the draft turned out like this and the Jets were able to get Gilbert in the first, Pettigrew or Greene in the second, and Robinson or Canfield in the 3rd, I would be ecstatic. Again, overall, good draft.
