I see some fans clamoring for Jets to re-sign some of our own FA's on social media, but just because the jets have a ton of cap doesn't mean we should throw money around. Ultimately, the money has to work for both sides and none of the above players are premium players worth the jets having to overpay to retain. From the above list, D/ Davod., ASJ, and maybe claiborne are the only players I'm interested in resigning. McCown maybe depending on if we strike out on cousins.
I'd like to re-sign McCown (if we lose out on Cousins), Davis, Cantanzaro, Ealy, Pennel and maybe Dozier and ASJ. The rest, thank you for your services.
I'd be surprised if ASJ comes back. The Seahawks are his hometown team and I think he'd be thrilled to go there. I'm fine with that. Next up is Trey Burton for me. Would love to add him. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...-to-show-interest-in-austin-seferian-jenkins/
Why wouldn't you re-sign Enunwa? Do you think he won't be healthy/the same player or that no other team would make him an offer? Do you think the Jets would match (or would you match) any offer? If not, who would you replace him with? If the Jets don't re-sign Claiborne, then they have to sign or draft two new starting CBs, or one starter and a slot CB, which would mean that Skrine is starting at one outside spot. I think that would be a big mistake. I think Skrine should go. I'd re-sign Claiborne, and look to sign two CBs in FA. Failing that, I'd sign at least one and get the other in the draft. Even with re-signing Davis (with which I agree), you're losing both your backup ILBs and one of your best STs players. I think that would be a big mistake as well. You'd then have to either sign two ILBs or sign one and draft one, and imo the ILB prospects in FA and the draft aren't any better than what we already have. Novorro Bowman, Preston Brown or Avery Williamson would be starters, or at least get starting money, so the Jets wouldn't sign either one of those if they re-signed Davis. Jon Bostic could get starter money too. I suppose that former Jet Nick Bellore might be an option, but they let him go to bring in or keep Stanford and Carter, so why do that? They don't want it to have to be a priority in the draft, and outside of Roquan Smith and Tremaine Edmunds, I haven't seen any ILB in the draft that I think would be any better than Stanford. Who would back up Adams and Maye at S? Brooks, Miles and Middleton are all FAs. Miles is a RFA and Middleton is an ERFA, so both will probably stay. You'd be content with that? You don't think that Brooks is better? In limited action he had 3 passes defensed and 2 interceptions. Aside from Ealy, who else would play DE? Would you just go with Ealy, Thomas, Cooper and Pelon?
I don't understand why we would want to keep Dozier and Ijalana around.....these guys wouldn't qualify on any other roster. Ijalana is the guy who Peyton through off the field during practice. I never understood keeping him around...also Qvale needs to be cut to.
Iljana hasn't brought anything. Given opportunities never did anything with them. He can move on. Dozier I thought played well when given the opportunity. Good depth guy. Maybe can push for playing time. I'm ok with him. Qvale hasn't done much. Much like Iljana has played some. Haven't seen anything great or bad. He can move on as well.
I never knew that Peyton had thrown Ijalana off the practice field. Thanks for that tidbit. I think he was kept because he had versatility (could play either LT or RT), knew the players, and it was questionable whether Beachum would stay healthy or play well all season. Dozier is being kept because he is the Idzik legacy draft pick. Seriously, I've read a couple of times that Bowles said he was the most improved player on the team this past season. Of course, that may not mean much. He still may not be very good. If he stays, it may be because he knows the offense, fits the zone blocking scheme, and the team likes him.
Check this out! Pretty interesting.... https://www.stampedeblue.com/2012/8...rtedly-very-skeptical-of-colts-og-ben-ijalana
I'm pretty shocked we haven't resigned anyone yet from that list must have davis claiborne maybe depending on who else we sign Mccown ASJ cantanzaro ealy The rest can walk
Assuming that we keep all of the RFAs and ERFAs, I'd keep the following FAs: Enunwa Claiborne ASJ Ealy Davis (if he will accept a reasonable deal) Catanzaro Pennel Dozier Stanford Stinson Brooks I think you guys who are saying only keep 3-4 of them just aren't being realistic. You're talking about replacing 17 guys in addition to Mo, Forté, Ijalana, and maybe Petty. That's almost half the roster. The Jets have 8 draft picks, and even in a great draft, you know that all aren't going to make the roster. That would mean that Mac would have to sign upwards of 13 outside FAs. That's not gonna happen.
I'd like to see these three back: Enunwa, Claiborne, ASJ. And it sounds like they have a plan B for Davis, Avery Williamson
Enunwa is a RFA. There's no need to re-sign him right now. I'd like to see what he can do after this neck injury before giving him a long-term deal. I'm not concerned about CB. CB's don't win football games. Front 7's do. We will sign a veteran CB, preferably one who can stay on the field a lot longer than Claiborne can and Skrine will be here as the slot CB (hopefully only the slot) unless we pick-up a cheaper veteran option. There's no need to let him go at this point in time. As far as finding a CB to start on the other side, Roberts, Burris and the two rookies from last season who barely played will be in play and I'm sure the Jets will either sign two veterans or will add another young CB come April 26-28. We didn't have good ILB depth last season. That doesn't change by letting the current reserves go. We need to improve the position, not stay stagnant. Miles and Middleton are all RFA's. No one is giving them offer sheets. They will be back and can be the back-ups. If they can bring Brooks back on a cheap 1 year deal, okay, but I'm not making him a priority. Aside from 2 YOLO ball INT's vs Miami, what did he do that was so special that the rest of the NFL reserve S's can't do? Ealy is a piece of the puzzle. They will have to add a DL likely in FA or the draft. I don't see the guys currently here, including our FA's, making up our DL room in 2018. They'll need to improve the position.
