http://www.nesn.com/2009/09/kris-jenkins-getting-loose-for-week-2-battle-with-new-england.html The Jets are desperate to get all hands (and backs) on deck for this Sunday's highly-anticipated tilt with the New England Patriots -- even if it means players taking a rehab road less traveled. Nose tackle Kris Jenkins, who was limited to practice on Wednesday with a lower back ailment, made an appointment with a chiropractor this week in hopes of loosening up the 6-foot-4, 360-pound beast. “I’m trying to make sure that I give my team the best that I can give it,” Jenkins told Eric Allen of newyorkjets.com. “And if that means I have to go and do a couple of things real quick to make sure I’m ready to go on Sunday, then that’s what I have to do.” The nine-year veteran told the New York media that the aching back is nothing to worry about. “It’s not me trying to weasel out of work and it’s not me having like serious issues,” he said. “I wish I could tell you all this is probably the only time it will happen, but it may not be. It depends. If I feel something in my body that I may have to take care of, then I’m going to do it. I’m going to make sure whatever I do that I’m going to get my butt out on the field.” Last season, Jenks faced a similar back issue -- an ailment which sidelined him for no more than the majority of one game. “This is the deal. Last year when we played San Diego, it was kind of like the same situation. I felt a little something, but I assumed that because I’m as tough as I am, I’ll be able to get through it and I’ll be fine,” he said. “Then when I went to the game, things happened and it didn’t work out the way I wanted to.” Jenkins had one tackle in the Jets' Week 1 win over the Texans. Last season -- his first with the Jets after seven in Carolina -- the Maryland alum tallied 37 tackles and 3 1/2 sacks in 16 contests for the Green and White.
shit. he needs to stay healthy and be ready to go or else the best rushing defense in the division falls to mediocrity very quickly.
I saw this as an aside on Cimini's blog. Ditto for Boone's. Jenkins took it easy, says he's doing it differently than last season. Hopefully that helps. We won't win many games without him in there.
For once, I'm not too worried about this. The rotation Rex is putting up seemed to be doing a very good job last week. So long as he doesn't throw his back out, I think this defense can actually survive against the run for a few plays without Jenkins.
I'm sure that's why they had a clause to keep his weight under control inserted into his contract but he doesn't look as svelt this year as he did last year.
Its all very well saying we need help for Jenks, but really , where and who could step into his colossal shoes?
Well, Jenkins was only on the field for about half the game last Sunday and Rex did a pretty good job of keeping pressure on Shaub. Jenkins would be difficult to replace for an entire season, but if we use him sparingly, as we did against Houston, I think he could last the entire season and then some.
Definatley. I had always hoped that Pouha would eat loads and develop, but hes been steady at best. I wish we could have landed BJ Raji somehow.
Big Jenks At least he is being proactive about it, I used to be that size and it does put a huge strain on your back. I can only imagine how much more strain it must be when you are throwing giant lineman around with one arm. I have my fingers crossed for a healthy season for him, because seriously he's our most important player on D.
Jenkins back has been a problem for years now. Every year I expect him to fade as the season progresses because of his back issues.
At least this year we have some flexibility with 4-3 fronts as well, as opposed to sticking with 3-4 regardless of who's in the middle.
I read this article earlier this morning. Jenkins goes on to talk about how it's really not a big deal, and he's just taking all the necessary precautions to be ready for Sunday. Rex also mentioned in his press conference on 9/16 that it really wasn't anything big. This is the ultimate troll thread... EDIT: Read the NewYorkJets.com version, it goes much more into detail.
