This is a continuation of an earlier poll that pitted Odrick Vs Jospeh and Hughes Vs Griffen In the earlier poll Odrick defeated Joseph and Griffen defeated Hughes, both by fairly comfortable margins, so now I am pitting the 34DE/43DT against the 34OLB/43DE in a head to head run off. Just so you know, barring the unforseen I'm trying to find a board consensus on players who have a genuine chance to be there at 29 overall at clear positions of need for the Jets. So after this poll if you want me to pit the winner verses someone else who figures to be available, like Devin McCourty for instance, we can do that too ... but for now its Odrick Vs Griffen.
I may be in the minority, but I truly believe EG is much better suited to play as a 4-3 DE. I just DON'T see Griffen as a 3-4 OLB.
I voted for Odrick...less potential for a bust and he shores up our defensive line with youth and ability.
WW, can you please do me a favor and close the other poll/thread? That semi-finals has been decided so now we are moving on to the finals  Thanks
I had to go with Odrick, as much as I believe we need a pass rushing OLB, we have a hole to fill at DE. Would you rather have Bryan Thomas as your starting OLB or Divito as your starting DE? I am more comfortable with Thomas, not an exciting player, but he is at least serviceable!
Honestly, I would rather start DeVito. I like DeVito and think he's an underrated player who I figured for a future starter anyway. BT is a decent player too, might even be a decent starter if he was there to compliment an elite edge rusher on the other side, but Clavin Pace is a good (not elite) edge rusher and IMO the 34 defense only works the way its supposed to work when you have an OLB who is a legit double digit sack artist with no gimmicks. That's why I would rather start DeVito at DE and draft Griffen in the hopes he can reach that elite edge rusher level Of course we wouldn't be in this spot if Vernon Gholston wasn't such a massive bust
I would rather have, Odrick. Atleast he has a great motor, and he plays with a lot of heart. I don't see that out of EG. He reminded me a lot of Gholston in college, not exactly the same, but a lot of negative similarities in the same light. I'm not saying the are similar in the body build aspect, more on the mental side of it.
I completely agree, Sir. I can't stand Penn State, just him coming from that program makes me hate him. If he becomes a Jet, I will eventually come around to it, but I hope we go a different route.
Is the consensus that we need 2 to find 2 starters at DE, or do most people feel like DeVito + draft pick would be strong enough?
Devito and pick is good enough but more would be even better. I'm hoping we might also get something out of Roderique Wright.
Right now? One because Shaun Ellis is still pretty good and the FO is pretty high on Mike DeVito. We could still re-sign Marques Douglas for depth purposes as well.
I was thinking more about the team going forward Re: our draft needs between the 2010 and 2011 drafts together. I already think we need 2x OL, FS, NT, DE, OLB, and maybe a mid-late round RB to replace Leon and a slot WR when we (probably) only re-sign one of Edwards/Holmes. I didn't know if there should be 2x DE on the wish list...
