If the 49ers pass on him would you trade up to get him?
Really like this guy tape, has a good arm, very good footwork, shows some inconsistency at his deep ball accuracy but overall the most pro ready Qb in this draft imo.

    Nope.

And he's not the most pro ready.

    So, no.

Possibly. Hate to say something so ambiguous but it really depends on how they feel about petty. He's the only QB in this draft I give a first round grade to.

I'd be happy with Goff as our QB. Not sure about trading up for him, though. We need quality young players all around to go with a good QB, which I think Goff will be. I'm not willing to take that risk.

If we trade up even a single position in this draft for ANY QB, our GM should be fired before the second round.

Are there any QB's in this draft you like, Stokes?

Such nonsense. If there is a QB that gets close to 20 that the FO feels strongly about they'd be foolish to not explore moving up to get him. He just better be right if that does happen.

Nope. The only wild card for me is Wentz. I don't know whether he is going to be a superstar or a dud.

I don't think Goff is going to be a star and trading up to 2 or 7 would be insane.

I don't think Lynch is very good and I think Cook is worse. I wouldn't take Hack as an UDFA and Hogan to me is a career backup. DaK looks like a slightly better throwing Tebow. Cardale Jones??

There isn't a Mariota or Teddy or Carr or Winston in this class.

I think Petty is actually better than anyone in this class and now that he has been in the system for a year, I wouldn't waste even a 7th rounder on a QB.

    That is just ridiculous.

If one of the top five guys falls out of the top ten and we could move up for a reasonable price we would be foolish not to do it.

A top QB or pass rusher would be a good example. It would cost us $17-20 mil per year to get a halfway decent one in free agency. The best ones never become free agents. If we could get one for our first and third rounder or even our first and second rounder our GM earns his paycheck.

As long as we get good value where we pick it does not matter how much we trade up or down.

Wait- One of the top 5 QBs "falls out" of the top 10? You're trading up to get Hack or Cook?

I wouldn't take one of those guys in the 6th round, much less trade up in the first round for them.

Can we just nip this in the bud right now? There's NO QB in this draft worth trading up for. NONE. There is no reasonable price and no one will accept a reasonable price to move up. We will not get good value taking a QB round 1.

Maybe. Maybe not. You don't know what our big board looks like. And you don't know where we rank each player.

By most accounts Goff and Wentz are top 15 talent in this draft. I bet neither one gets close to us at 20.

If one of those guys drops it's conceivable we could take one of them. It depends on how we rate them, that's it. It's not about any other board or anyone else's rankings.

I hope you're better at evaluating qbs then you are at wrs. I was looking at some old threads where you adhamently gave your opinion of OBJ....

Sometimes I don't think you guys appreciate what a great GM Mac has been. If he trades up I will assume that the player is worth the cost and the he's a better judge of talent than I am.

Mac could trade up to #1 and draft Jaylen Smith and I'd assume he has his reasons. My enthusiasm for him might get a bit dampened but jc he's been here a year, has made undoubtedly excellent decisions and some of you would call for his head if he trades up to get a qb.... Bums

Link? I don't really remember having much of a view on OBJ one way or the other. I think you are mistaking me for someone else. If I was down on OBJ it was likely because I only wanted Teddy or Carr in the first round over any other player and not because I didn't like the player-- that was a stellar WR class.

Besides, I think Mac is a GREAT GM and if he were to trade up for anyone I'd be all for it.

You asked ME if I liked any QBs. I'm not Mac, I don't think my opinion means anything when it comes to what Mac should do. I just don't like this QB class. I loved the 2014 QB class and hated the 2013 QB class.

Besides I LOVED his trade up last year.

    For Petty.

I couldn't possibly disagree more. To the contrary, I think Mac would be foolish to trade up. We aren't one player away. We don't have adequate depth, and we need replacements for a number of older players/starters (Brick, Breno, Mangold, Harris, Marshall), and the last thing we can afford to do is trade up. If anything, Mac ought to consider trading down and getting additional picks.

Please do not twist my words or take my point as an endorsement of any specific QB in this draft.

My example used to demonstrate my point is if a player in the top 5 overall (on the draft board the Jets GM has put together) were to fall to pick 11 that we should make an effort to move up for that player and do so if we can make a reasonable deal.

I further emphasized my point by stating that if said player were a QB or a pass rusher the value gained by such a move could be even greater.

While the Jet's top five could include a QB for all I know I am thinking more about Tunsil or Jack myself.

Even if you believe for some reason that Goff, etc. is going to be a huge bust it does not make my point about trading up for the right player any less correct.

Say what you want about Tanny but he had the guts to trade up and doing so netted him Revis and Harris in the same draft. When you get two guys like that who cares what you could have had if you just had one more pick in round five?

What if that player was Marcus Mariota?

I remember how much you wanted him last year.

If you could have Marcus Mariota in return would you trade our first two picks in this draft to get him?

A QB is the only player in a draft for whom I'd give two first round picks, and there's no QB whose play even remotely resembles Marcus Mariota in this draft. Tennessee isn't about to trade him for two first round picks, but if they were to offer him to us for our first two picks, I'd take the deal, but wouldn't play Mariota until I could draft two new OTs..
