Our cap situation limits our options in free agency or I would look at someone like Osi for our defense.

Instead I chose to focus on the OL in the draft and some cheap free agents to improve our skill positions.

For now I am punting on Holmes and out QB situation.

Targets in the 2014 draft would be RB and QB depending on how our offense (and defense) do in 2013.

    Cap Management:

David Harris – Restructure / pay cut (otherwise trade or cut)
Mark Sanchez – Trade, otherwise cut June 1st
    Jason Smith – Cut = savings $12M
Calvin Pace – Trade or cut
Derell Revis – Trade at deadline (if healthy)
Bart Scott – Trade or cut
Sione Pouha – Restructure / pay cut (otherwise trade or cut)
Eric Smith – trade or cut
Tim Tebow – trade or cut

    Extensions:

    Antonio Cromartie
    Kyle Wilson
    Quinton Coples
    Muhammad Wilkerson

    Free Agency (Jets):
    Mike Devito UFA
    Laron Landry UFA
    Braylon Edwards UFA
    Yeremiah Bell UFA
    Bryan Thomas UFA
    Jeff Cumberland RFA
    Austin Howard RFA
    Josh Mauga RFA
    Tanner Purdam RFA
    Dedrick Epps EFA
    Isaiah Trufant EFA
    Darrin Walls EFA
    Jordan White EFA

    Free Agency (other teams):
    Rashard Mendelhall RB
    Julian Edelman WR
    Brian Hartline WR
    Heath Miller TE

    Draft

    Round One:

Jets trade pick 9 (1350 points)to Tampa Bay for Pick 13 (1150 points) and pick 77 (205 points) in round 3

    1. Chase Warmack OG Alabama
Second choice: Jake Matthews OT Texas A&M
Third choice: Sheldon Richardson DT Missouri

    Round Two:

    2. DJ Fluker OT Alabama
Second choice: Jonathan Cooper OG North Carolina
Third choice: Dallas Thomas OG/OT Tennessee

    Round Three:

SB loser Trades pick 95 (120 points) to the Jets for pick 105 (84 points) and pick 137 (37.5 points) and pick 233 (2.1 points)

3a. Gavin Escobar TE San Diego St
3b (from Bucs) Brian Winters OG/OT Kent State
3c (from SB loser) Brandon Jenkins OLB Florida State

    Other issues:

Need two QBs from trade, free agency, or draft

By extensions you mean Kyle Wilson not David Wilson correct?

I would love Warmack in round 1 involving a trade down.

    Uhm

David Harris signed a 4 year 36 million contract with 29.5 million guaranteed.

Theres absolutely 0 leverage to force him to restructure, and cutting him would be COMPLETELY retarded. At best youd save 3 million over 3 years, and thats if you replaced him with a vet min player.

And you cant extend Coples/Wilk at this point.

I believe Wilk is under contract for another 2 (With a club option for 3rd) years and Coples for 3 with an option for 4. It makes 0 sense for either to take extensions.

And I have no idea who David Wilson is, ill assume you meant the bust 1st round cornerback Kyle.

Id be very happy with that draft though

I'm all for drafting a Guard and a Tackle with our 1st and second round pick just like 49ers did a couple of years ago with their 2 first round picks.

Coples and Wilk look like keepers to me. Their play on the field gives the Jets good reason to extend them. I do not want to wait until they become UFAs to start talking extension. We have time but I would at least make the attempt to lock them up.

You do not have the correct facts regarding Harris's contract. He signed a four year extension in 2011. His salary in 2013 is $13,000,000 and it is not guaranteed. Cutting him next year would save us $4,000,000 against the cap $13M salary - $9 mil dead money = $4 mil savings.

If we do nothing, Harris costs us $13 mil this year and $7 mil next year for a total of $20 mil for an average of $10 mil per year. Only $9 mil is prorated bonus or guaranteed. We can extend the length of his contract but the average pay has to come down.

Jets Cap and rotoworld both say its not that way

    http://nyjetscap.com/salary13.html

13.5m in dead money for a negative cap savings if cut next year.

I could be understanding something wrong though.

And you cant extend Wilk/Coples. How often are rookies extended that early, it doesnt make sense. They'd rather play out their rookie deal and get a big pay day.

Yes you eventually start talking extensions, but that should be with 1 year left, with a club option and or franchise tag option coming into play

The link has conflicting info. If you drill down on David Harris the details are different.

I wouldn't mind tanking this season frankly.

Especially if Jets drop most of their retarded contracts (which will free up almost 100M if they shed all) then they can really start on a clean slate come 2014. Now, rookies do come with a salary ceiling too, so that means Jets can do a LOT. I'd like that.
