really wish we would have gotten Jakeen Grant, I still think he is gonna be good. Although it looks like we picked up a couple of good ones with Marshall and Peake.

Excellent thread I'm impressed, you should post more. Just remember if anyone gives you a hard time just save this thread and bump it in 10 years to tell everyone how right you were.

Waterboy, I admit to being a Texas Tech alumnus and fan. I haven't missed a TT game in many years. I also watch a great deal of BIG XII games. Having said that I only really push the kids (Tech and BIG XII ) that I think are special. I remember pushing a receiver years ago and all I heard was the same "product of the system" crap. That receiver was Wes Welker. I also liked Amendola coming out but he had trouble staying healthy.

This year I really liked Jakeem Grant and it kills me to see him on the fish. Another kid that I think is going to make some noise is Dre Washington with the Oakland Raiders. I understand that we had bigger needs than RB this last draft.

This coming year it will be Junior QB Pat Mahomes..

    Mahomes True Soph highlights -
    65 yards throw from his knees(arm strength) - http://sportsday.dallasnews.com/col...patrick-mahomes-throw-football-65-yards-knees

your original post left a lot to be desired. it was a quick this is what I think post without much substance. I would be interested in why exactly you liked him.

waterboy was a bit of a dick and could have handled it a little better but guys get frustrated and like to shit on people instead of explaining what they would rather see.

your second post was a bit better, still I am interested in why you think he will be good or is a guy you would have targeted.

that said, I don't really post thread starting posts very often, because I am really not very good at it. I find myself being a better replier than a thread starter. so I try to avoid starting them unless I really think its a good post. and about half of the time I end up saying god I suck at starting threads.

ps big xii football has gotten so goddamn soft and pitiful the only thing they are going to produce at this point is wrs. theyre a couple years away from playing touch football down there at this point.

Alleycat, I made my initial post as the Giant/Fish game was starting so I was anxious to get back to the game and was aggravated about Grant. That is why the post was abrupt and contained little detail.

Back to Grant, I watched all of his games in college and saw a player with excellent speed, crazy moves, exceptional strength, toughness , and most of all a determination to succeed. Some kids come out with one , two or maybe three traits but not the whole package. His only weakness is his hands, they are average. Plenty of highlight videos available..

As far as BigXII getting soft, I kind of agree with you. The focus has been on wide open offenses and away from any type of defense. The conference has been hurt by the turmoil at UT lately and now the mess at Baylor will add to conference woes. I still think there is a ton of talent in the Big XII. In addition to WRs I also think RBs and DBs standout. A XII conference RB has to run the ball, catch out of the backfield , and do a lot of blocking. That is what many NFL teams are looking for. DBs also get a ton of work in the XII. Some of the QBs are talented but retarded in their growth by playing sparingly under center and in relatively simple systems.

Joe my initial comment was just a sigh, wishing as a life long Jet fan, we would have picked him up. It was something I was posting/advocating about before the draft. My second post was an answer to alleycat as to why.. As a Jet fan and Grant fan I dread the torment over the next few years.

Initially I also mentioned that I came away from Jet game impressed with J. Marshall and Peake. Its early but it looks like we are adding some quality depth at WR. There is going to be some difficult cuts to make.

I agree, lots of talent, hopefully they can refocus as a conference on playing hard nosed football. if one team decides to do it I think it will be a thing that catches on.

Don't feel too bad, and by all means post this stuff here. As fast as players change teams, your boy could be in green someday. Keeping us here in tgg updated about a few good players, especially those that went to afce teams, is not bad. It's football knowledge, and a good thing. Thanks! Before your post I never heard of the guy.

What round was he drafted in? Any chance he gets cut by the fish?

214 , Grant was drafted in the 6th round.. I doubt he doesn't make the team. I go on Texas Tech forum a lot and they post and retweet articles from Miami beat writers that praise Grant.

Welker was not drafted but signed with San Diego out of college. The Chargers offered him a spot on the practice squad but he chose to sign with the Fish instead, and from there he career took off. At the time Welker was also criticized because of his size.
