http://www.jaguars.com/story/5513.asp Decision time on Stroud, Jones 10/2/06 By Vic Ketchman, jaguars.com senior editor Jack Del Rio will consider resting defensive tackle Marcus Stroud for this Sunday's game against the New York Jets, which would allow Stroud three full weeks to recover from a season-long ankle sprain before the Jaguars play again. “We have to determine whether or not they're effective enough to do what we're asking them to do. Are we helping them or us?” Del Rio said of Stroud and wide receiver Matt Jones. Stroud also sustained a groin strain in Sunday's loss to the Washington Redskins. Jones missed most of the last two games with hamstring and groin strains. The Jaguars have a bye week following their game against the Jets, then play at Houston on Oct. 22. This would be the best opportunity in the season for Stroud and Jones to get the rest their injuries require to heal.
That would be great! Help us out in terms of taking out a run-stuffer in the middle and takes out their most electric offensive player. Man, this would be excellent.
Best offensive player....matt jones? I think Reggie Williams, and Jones-Drew don't agree with you there.
there dline is still more then capable of attacking chad. but maybe, just maybe if we run the ball a little vs. them we can make things interesting.
i'd be more worried about their LB's at that point. Reggie Hayward is out, he and hes a more than solid pass rusher. If we can double team Henderson we just have to worry about Mike Peterson in the middle. were gonna need alot of help from our FB's. but i know what you mean, its no reason to think it will be easy. But without Stroud and Hayward and Spicer being banged up. Running wont be impossible if our FB can actually get to the next level. but thats the big question now.
Definitely a big question. I just don't like the matchups this week. Going into the Colts game I had a scenario where we could win, I'm having a difficult time with this one....
well the Jags CB's dont really cover a 1 and 2 reciever. they stay on one side of the field, so if we can switch our Wideouts assignments and use alot of the pre snap motion, we should be able to get the passing game going. Again they have a great run D, but we still run the ball to no evail so we can keep Defenses honest. If we can use misdirection or screens and isolate henderson and mike peterson we can run. This game doesnt scare me, and Leftwhich is no Manning. Sure he can fit it into tight spots, but that might also lead to INT's. If Barrett can see some time in place of Dyson or Miller it would be good. Barrett is good against the deep pass but gives cushion on shorter routes. Something most of our DB's appear to do, so that isnt much of a loss. This is a very winnable game, not saying we will. But if we can force Leftwhich to win this game I dont think he will.
Give the JETS D issues I would prefer Jones-Drew out over Matt Jones (who has shown flashes, but is still learning to be a WR) I'll be at the game. Go JETS
