Should the Jets sign him????? http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/1...guars-let-maurice-jones-drew-test-free-agency
I think this would be a very solid signing for the Jets. Ivory is good, and MJD did have a down year, but you could probably get him for a reasonable price. They need a few more offensive play makers and this would be a start.
MJD is starting to break down, 3 straight years of 300 carries (2009-2011) - does not body well for his future. I would give him maybe 100 carries at the most, 150. He is an old 28. He would be a good 3rd down back though - would sign for cheap.
Actually, it's rare to say this in a recent off season, but I am perfectly happy with our current RB core going into 2014. Ivory, Powell, Goodson is solid. No need to bring in MJD. I don't think we should overpay a vet that has already left his prime. We are building to the future. I doubt it happens unless he comes in dirt cheap, which I don't see. We need WRs and TEs, not backs. Also we have a goal line back. His name is Richardson.
We can use a speed back for certain situations similar to what Goodson was suppose to be but this guys gonna want more then he is worth
He would be a very good signing IMO. I think he can be had for a fairly favorable deal as well. There's some tread on those tires but he's still a good RB. He's also a very motivated individual who is going to come here with a chip on his shoulder. That's the type of guy you want to sign. He would run his ass off here. Some of you are comparing it to the L.T. signing but I think it would be more like when they brought in Thomas Jones.
I think we are set at RB, we have a nice 1-2 punch w/ Powell and ivory and I think Goodson will help us catching passes next year. I am more worried about the WRs.
Not sure if the Jets are a fit, but from what little I saw of the Jags this year, he still has gas in the tank. Put him on a team that actually has a legit passing game and he could do OK IMO.
I think he can be effective as a change of pace back, I wouldn't want him to have to carry the load at this point.
