Warning: Do not read if you plan on watching the draft this Saturday. RD 1: Jarron Gilbert, DE, San Jose St. Possible slight reach, but young depth is needed on the DL. Gilbert could possibly find his way into starting role by mid season. RD 2: Shonn Greene, RB, Iowa. My man crush of the draft. He has everything I like in a RB. Awesome balance, vision, instincts, doesnt fumble, hard worker. And he trucks kids. RD 3: Ramses Barden, WR, Cal Poly A tall playmaker at 6'6''. WR is a need, and Barden would have a very big role, good value in the 3rd. RD 4: Cornelius Lewis, OG, Tennessee St. Strong, powerful, tough, and aggressive. Good depth for the OL. RD 6: Emanuel Cook, S, South Carolina A safety to groom behind Leonhard. Very physical and a good tackler. RD 7: Robert Brewster, OL, Ball St. More OL depth. If one of our starting 5 OL goes down we are screwed. Young depth is needed more than we realize. This is my personal favorite compilation of picks. I dont see the need for a TE like others do. If Keller works hard enough, I dont see why he cant become a complete TE. A punter would need to be nabbed in FA.
I think most people realize a need for a TE strictly based on numbers. We simply don't have the bodies. We have Keller, our long snapper in Dearth, and a converted DL playing TE for us. That's horrible depth.
I hope you have a trade in there somewhere, because GIlbert at 17 is absurd, there is no chance at all anyone else in the first round would pick him, maybe he sneaks into the top half of round 2 maybe. This is one of those things where everyone hears a guy is rising and assumes that means he'll be a first rounder when really they are talking about a guy who was a borderline day one guy moving somewhere into the 2nd or early 3rd. Add in the video of him jumping out of a pool and all of the sudden amateur mocks have him in the mid 1st.
Instead of Gilbert at 17, I'd much rather have us trade down and take a WR like Nicks or Britt and then go Gilbert and RB in round 2.
Completely wrong my man. At his highest peak of hype, people had him going to chargers at 16. Theres nothing wrong with taking a player higher than most would. Gilbert fits our team perfect and is a need. And yes, I am an amateur at mocks, but that doesnt mean I am an amateur in draft knowledge. Ive never seen you post in the draft section before?
Ive been seeing him go in the second alot, but hes being drafted on pure potential. Should scare a few teams away.
I think you're right. I also think that Gilbert at 17 might be a reach but what do I know. Maybe if we trade out of the first in exchange for two 2nd round picks or a 2nd and a 3rd we can accomplish the same thing with respect to the first three picks suggested above and save some money on the process.
I would be sick if Gilbert was selected in the first, he is not a first round talent, i will be completely surprised i he go's in the first, i think he go's around the 42-50th selection in the draft. I know you will say that you might as well go get your guy, but there is reaching, and then there is being stupid, and grabbing him at 17, well it's stupid. Under no circumstances is he a first round talent, if I'm wrong and he is selected by us at 17, or in the first at all, i will apologise to you and say you are right, but needless to say i don't expect to be making that apology.
-I don't like Gilbert at 17. The value just isn't there. I'm all for drafting him, but he can be had somewhere in the 20's and we can slide back and pick up a couple extra picks. -Unless we move up, Barden won't make it to our pick in the 3rd. -Brewster is gone by the 7th.
Prepare to be surprised. A team will fall in love with Gilbert and what he brings, and wont risk waiting for him in the second. And it could very well be the Jets. On the DE note, if we select Tyson Jackson with our 1st.. I will be sick.
In all my years of following the draft and following the Jets, I can honestly say I have never seen the craziness on this site with Jarron Gilbert. Normally you see sites like this with their mocks and they are hopeful someone will fall to them. In this case, we are talking about a 2nd rounder going #17. Kiper has him rated 41st, Pro football weekly 82nd, Scott Wright 64th. Nobody, Nobody, Nobody, has him near the 17th pick except this site. The thing is, I don't even like him in the 2nd. He's very raw technically and I've heard when he gets hit in the mouth, he backs off. Doesn't sound like a Rex Ryan guy to me.
By the way, Todd McShay has him going 55th in his mock. Also, I really like Shonn Green too. He's a beast.
The fact that you don't think Jarron Gilbert belongs in the SECOND round just shows how little you know... These rankings have him second behind this year's best defensive lineman BJ Raji: http://www.rotoworld.com/content/fe...nfl&columnid=60&article=27418&PrintFriendly=Y This mock has him going #20 to the Lions: http://www.rotoworld.com/content/features/column.aspx?sport=NFL&columnid=60&articleid=32431&pg=2 I think it's hilarious that you put so much stock into what other mock draftees are saying about this player - if you knew anything about him, you'd know that he's one of the most physically gifted linemen in a long, long time. I've watched him a couple of times during Fresno State vs. San Jose State games and I can tell you this: he does not back down and chases a lot of plays down from behind.
Isn't he the guy that broke the bogus Raji rumors?? Also, he doesn't even have Tyson Jackson going in the 1st. We'll see. The great thing about this argument is we will all see the answer this weekend.
...because Tyson Jackson is one of the most overrated prospects in this draft. He disappears in most games.
