Brian S. may be our MVP so far. With the defense not stopping anyone when it counts, no running game to speak of, a young oline, it's been our offense that has carried this team so far. The playcalling and game planning on O has been amazing. His creativity and aggressiveness if what is keeping us in games like this past sunday. Had our defense been able to just generate a pass rush we would've won this game by atleast 1 score.

So I'd like to start this thread to say thanks to our young OC.

I love the no huddle offense. Chad has put in the correct play call/formations all year long.

Oh don't get me wrong, chad has run the offense perfectly, but you also have to give credit to the system.

Oh, I give all the credit to Shotty, bad post on my part. I'm sure Shotty is still calling the plays, and he is the one who realized he has a great QB, lets go no huddle. It all starts with the coordinating, he's playing to his players strengths, not forcing them into "his" system. He's done a lights out job so far(except the 1st quarter)

Very true. I was worried about our rookie OC but it looks like he understands enough to put up puts. If you would have told me that we would be 2-2 with no running game ......

    He's done a great job.

No doubt. I love the Re-set's on the formations and the fact that Chad gets to the Line with 15-20 seconds left and is allowed to audible or re-set.
That's called using your players correctly.
Cause we all know Chad is one smart mutha f'ker..lol

There are times where I get angry still with trying to force the run. I was Hoping we could embrace the fact that this group seems to be suited to pass 1st.

But all in all, seems like Mangini screaming at his ass in the pre-season worked

I love the motion too. It's a part of the offense that really can leave defenses off balance. They line up B.J. Askew in a receiver slot, then move him to the left, and that gives us an extra blocker without an extra defender.

You need Pennington to run the system, but I agree both have been MVP worthy so far. :)

I really like Schottenheimer, he has done a great job. Even better than his play-calling has been the installment of the no-huddle, and allowing Pennington to audible and make adjustments at the line of scrimmage. Hackett and Heimerdinger had arguably the smartest QB in the NFL, and they wouldn't let him make any pre-snap adjustments (although to be fair to Heimerdinger, we didn't see enough to fairly judge.)

I do hope that if we get a decent running game, Schott doesn't become like his father. With a poor running game, there have been times when, IMO, there was too many run plays. Still, I'm not worried about that happening. I like what I see so far. Hopefully since he's so young he'll be the OC for a while before he gets a shot at a HC job.

However it is the times that we are forcing the run that later in the game is giving us the ability to make big plays with the playaction.

I've been really impressed with Schotty's creativity, especially how he uses motions, shifts, and audibles to get favorable matchups. It's almost been Gruden-esque. Mixing that along with the no-huddle offense should be confusing the hell outta defenses.

There's also been alot of new, nifty formations, too. It seems like the offense is constantly changing and evolving, so that defenses have a hard time making adjustments or preparing for it. I also like how he's been involving the playmakers like Brad Smith and Leon Washington, designating unique plays just for them.

At first, I was really worried about the situation, since he is a Schottenheimer, after all. He's done very well to mitigate my worries, and once he gets a running game, this offense can be lethal.

i think that a number of TGG boardies give schotty plenty of credit...chad looks extremely comfortable in the no-huddle, and aside from out 1st quarter woes and lack of a running game, it looks like we have a top 10 offense

I like brian and what he's done but this is not the week to give him applause. he called a terrible game on Sunday. We ran it 37 times and threw it just 23 when we were passing at will against them(the last 3-4 passes we had to throw on the last possesssion). His playcalling during the ill fated 4th and G drive was atrocious as well as we ran it 3 times when we had 1st and G from the 7 setting up a very difficult 4th and G from the 3 where we called a ridiculous play.

Hey, I gave him some credit in my one thead I've posted :)

I'm really taking a liking to him and think that he's a breath of fresh air and while we still saw a 3rd and long draw play we see many more things we haven't seen in a long time. It also helps to have a healthy QB and OL but he's also giving Chad a lot of leeway which is working out quite nicely.

Did anyone actually watch the game on Sunday? Did you see we ran it 37 tims and threw it just 23? 5 of the 23 passes came in the final :50 secs so 59 mins into the game we threw it just 18 times! not to mention the atrociously conservative play calling on the ill fated 4th and G drive. All this while our passing game was highly effective and our Rbs ran it 35 times for 122 yds for a YPC UNDER 3.5.

Schottenheimer did a good job the forst 3 weeks and at times on sunday but overall he gets an F for sunday.

I'm looking at his overall body of work, not just Sunday. We also did move the ball pretty well yesterday after getting a slow start and Houston ran pretty well so I wasn't so upset with running so much. Plus there was a plan there to try and keep Peyton off the field and it sort of worked.

Now I agree the play calling that led up to and included the 4th and G drive wasn't pretty, but I didn't think the offense looked too bad overall on Sunday

I completely understand wanting to keep Peyton off the field but we kept putting him on the field early on w/ stalled drives b/c we ran too much and running killed the controversial drive when we were having an easy time passing the ball all afternoon.

Early in the game you're absolutely right but in the 2nd and 3rd we did a pretty good job of keeping him off the field, or at least it seemed that way. Don't get me wrong we are definitely looking better with the passing game but I thought Houston was running really well and if there was an issue with the running game it was that they kept trying to force Barlow too much in the beginning.
