Except for the fact that we're starting a 38 year old journeyman instead of a rookie. But when there's a close early season game to be won by a team that isn't supposed to win any games, it's always nice to get that stupid penalty to put you in field goal range. (Hi Revis!)
And surprising when our team lacks talent is fine, but we have to continue to build towards something. We can't miss on draft picks and compensate by overspending on over the hill free agents.
Na. It's not 2013 again. It's 2017 and the Jets are one of the NFL's youngest teams; if not the youngest. I've been against McCown the entire time. I wanted either of Hack or Petty too. But these past two weeks reality sunk in. McCown due to being a veteran with knowledge & experience gives players such as Elijah McGuire, Robby Anderson, ArDarius Stewart and Sefferian-Jenkins etc the best chance to not only make plays but also show their worth. He's not Fitzpatrick either. He actually has an arm in order to throw the ball downfield. Short team fix but with either of Petty or Hack we could very well see an inexperienced offense running around like chickens with their heads cut off and that alone would stunt the growth or our entire offense. McCown can at least keep drives alive. Which doesn't expose and kill our defense as a raw younger QB could and would do. McCown has never won in this league. Him being 2-2 four weeks in goes to tell me that this Jets team is more talented than people thought. In closing thank God we won that game vs. TB. I live in Saint Petersburg less than 15 minutes over the bridge from Tampa. My friends & co-workers wouldn't have lived that one down just as i remind them my Jets have an All-Time winning percentage of over .900+ against their Succaneers.
2013 was a fun season. Rollercoaster ride for sure. Beating the Saints and the Pats were awesome. I also remember soooo many pick 6's. Geno had to have lead the league in them. Win one, lose one, win one, lose one. The Rex Ryan way. Get your team so ready to beat whomever they're playing that you suck the life out of them for the following week. We beat the Saints following that disaster in Cincinnati if I remember correctly. That's just how Rex rolls. After beating NE in week 7, Rex got alligator arms.
We're the sixth youngest team. We were the seventh youngest team in 2013. Our average age in 2013 (25.6) was younger than our average age this year (25.62). http://www.phillyvoice.com/ranking-nfl-teams-age-after-53-man-cutdowns-2017-edition/ We were also starting a rookie QB instead of a 38 year old. You just forget how young the 2013 team was because they didn't pan out.
The only thing that's similar about this season and the 2013 season so far is the narrative, worst team in the league to start the season only to end up winning a few games and proving to be better than the worst. The problem with your 2013 comparison is everything else that comes with it, this a new team of players and a new team of young guys, doesn't mean they won't pan out like the last batch. Also a new follow up of drafts, following 2013 we didn't draft well (as always) so the way the 2018,2019,2020 etc drafts go will play a huge role in determining the outcome. Way too many variables exist to simply compare this team to the 2013 team and say the results will be the same and we will be back in the same position in 2021. Is it a possibility? Sure, anything is possible in that regard, also it's possible that Adams, Maye, Williams, Enunwa, McGuire, young guys on the O-line develop better than our young guys on the 2013 team, and it's possible we draft some solid players over the next draft or two and the results will be far different than last time.
