    1- Blaylock - OL
    2- CB...Best available
    2- Tank Tyler - DT
3- Walter Thomas - NT NW Mississippi CC

-Would this be considered a successful 1st day draft ?

-Sure take scare of Jets' immediate needs ?

It'd certainly make training camp very interesting.

A lot would depend on which CB fell to 59. The Jets really need to get close to maximum value out of their picks and avoid selecting for need.

I feel these needs (players) will get Jets' to the next level. Jets' need more substance {SIZE} - than style{finesse} right now to me & these players with there size will add that to team. Did you see there upcoming sked' ?
Its for men only... LIL Boys' need not apply !!!

It may be good, but unlikely. Here are the weaknesses for Tyler, per ESPN. Three strikes on Mangini's core Jet values: hard working, high character, smart.

Weaknesses: He is quick in the short area but lacks ideal top-end speed and closing burst. He shows good initial pop but lacks ideal lower-body strength to consistently anchor versus the run. He is somewhat top-heavy and doesn't play with a wide base. He relies too much on his ability to win with initial quickness and upper body power. A little bit too straight-lined of a player. Does not show the fluid change-of-direction skills to consistently redirect and make plays in the backfield at the NFL level. There are some significant concerns regarding his character and work ethic. He was arrested in 2005 for assaulting a police officer in a Raleigh, NC nightclub and he was ejected from the Southern Miss game in 2006 for "spitting". Also some concerns regarding mental capacity after poor score on Wonderlic Test (13).

Maybe he could be Mangini's designated spitter to spit on Belichik's shoes as he ran over to hug/flinch away from/hand shake/back slap Mangini after the game?

Tyler clocked 42 reps on bench press !!!! That translates to....There not running thru him ? Hello.!!!!!...He can be better than Kimo & solidify that RDE position. If u look at the good 3-4 defense around the league (NE, SD,...etc), u may notice that they use DT's as DE's in there 3-4 defense. This helps anchor versus the run & they blitz the LB's. Please take a look & see what the successful trend is here. Check out the size & weights of these 3-4 De's ....OK.

    Blalock is a good pick.

    BPA at CB is fine...

Tank Tyler... MAYBE if he's the best player around, but his character and work ethic issues could scare us away. I don't think he's a 3-4 DE. Plus, we just invested a whole into Kenyon Coleman and we're said to like him a lot...

But why do we go for a second NT with Walter Thomas? He too has chacracter and work ethic ussues. He's a hell of a reach in the 3rd though. His extreme lack of experience and EXTREME lack of higher level competition is way too much for us in the 3rd.

    First 2 picks.
    Next two... No.

I can't see Mangini drafting a guy who's assaulted a police offer and scored a 13 on the Wonderlic.

I haven't even seen Walter Thomas play, but I'm jumping on the bandwagon. It just feels right. Good coaching brings out the best in players. Cream rises to the top  And the Jets' need a real NT.

But he can spit! Can't overlook the small things that make for a truly disgusting defensive tackle.

We might as well let DeWayne start at NT since he improved gradually as the year went on. I'm sure he's been hitting the weight room during this offseason and adding some weight also. I have faith in him especially since he, along with the rest of the defense, will be more adjused to the 3-4. Also, Kenyon Coleman alongside him should help. Plus, why give up on Sione Pouha? Might as well give a shot this season.

I'm not high on drafting a NT period. Drafting 2 on Day 1? And Demarcus Tyler is supposedly a 3-4 NT if anything.

There is NO way we can draft a guy in the 3rd round who is overweight, has character issues, has work ethic issues, went to a Community College and played at a VERY low level of competition and only played in a few games at that level.

Sorry, but that is a MAJOR risk there.

Does good coaching always bring out the best in players? One example, Jeff Fisher, a great Head Coach in the NFL for a long time... And Pac Man Jones.

if he's a good enough player i think magnini would... you don't know how he was brought up, plus PACMAN was just made an example of. a little counseling and this stupid mistake wont happen again...

If we took Thomas is the fifth round or later I'd be ok with it. Any earlier than that is too high for my taste.

Not trying to slight you in any way here but defensive line play comes down to more leg drive than upper body stregnth. You can be able to bench press your house, but if the man in front of you has good leverage, a wide base and excellent leg drive, your going to get blown off the ball 9 out of 10 times. I'd say Mr. Tyler is no more an anchor than you or I would be for the Jets D-Line.
