I think it is. We pay new england next week and thats going to be a real tuff game for us to win. If we dont win tommorrow we could easily be 0-2. Week 3 we play buffalo which is prob another must win becuase we play the colts in week 4. The point is with a young team and coach we need to win the easier games or else this season will get ugly quick.
I definitley think it is, and not only is it a must win, we must perform up to par to see what we are working with this year. I don't think we will blow em' out or anything, but if we have a nice win, it will definitley build some confidence for a young team and a young head coach. so yes, it's a must win.
I don't think it is a must-win game myself. I would expect us to slide early in the season as the Offensive unit continues to find its rhythm. We will probably lose some of what should be easier games lost by close scores with defense keeping us in the game. Myself, I would much rather see us have a strong push toward the end of the season, rather than start strong and end weak. I think that will help more closing the season and preparing for next year.
Tennessee is in a situation which is probably worse than ours. We need to take advantage of this and capitalize if we're going to make any kind of push this year.
Funny, I was thinking about this today.... and yeah, I think it's as close to a must win as ANY week 1 game in this team's history. The Titans are a bad football team. The Jets are not. We aren't good either, but we're much better than Tennessee. If we lose.... the press, the whiners and darksiders will have a field day. A win will shut em up for a while.
I have a real tough time declaring week one games "must win." I'd rather put this in the "step backward if we lose" category. Not the end of the world, just an errant first step.
I agree this is really a crossraods type game where it could dictate how well the franchoise does in the future. Similar to the spike game against Miami when a win would have put us in first place. Rather we lost and brought us Kotite. Winning Football games is so dependant upon confidence. Tennessee is in mroe disarray than us and it is a game we should not lose. But a loss could spiral us downwards towards an awful start. With a new CS the players need to believe in that CS and see evidence what they are preaching is worth listening to. A win on the other hand gives is a chance against NE and builds a great deal of confidence. We have had what has arguably been the greatest 9 year stretch of Jet football in the franchises history. We have played like winners during that time with great confidence even though we did not have the best talent. I would hate to go back downwards. Winning breeds winning just as losing breeds losing. We have the talent to win here we just need the confidence and a win Sunday would go a long way to building that foundation of confidence we desperately need.
I guess it depends...if any of us think that the Jets could surprise the world and be in contention for a playoff spot still around week 12 or 13..then I would say yes. After the titans you have: Patriots at Buffalo Colts at Jacksonville Miami The great part about the schedule is the finish: Houston at Green Bay Buffalo at Minny at Miami Oakland You win this first game and you can almost afford to lose 3 out of the next 5 on the above list and be at 500. If you are looking at this as a rebuilding year...there are no must wins this season. Just a bunch of games you would like to see them pull out..or get better as the season goes on. Im still shooting to make those December games mean something..its either that or the Knicks.
I don't think this season has any real "must win"games, but we should beat the teams we SHOULD beat, and this is one of them. Nobody is expecting playoffs for us this year. But i'm also not expecting as bad of a year as some are. we could be 2-2 after 4.
GREAT QUESTION!!!! Yes, it's a DEFINATE MUST MUST MUST win. If we happen to lose this very first game of the year, we can go 15 and 0 from there on out and we'll STILL miss the playoffs at 15 and 1. If we don't win against the Titans it's ALL OVER for sure.
Well, how is THAT a MUST win. Does it really matter at ALL if we win the first game and then lose the next 6? I don't understand the thought process of statements like this. Are there schools in New York? Or has there been a toxic spill in the New York area in the last 25 years???
