Is preseason REALLY meaningless?

It seems as if all the issues we saw in preseason this year are the same issues we're still seeing in the regular season.

    1) No running game
    2) No pass rush. (improving a little recently)
    3) Can't stop the run. This is possibly worse now!
    4) Pennington not playing well.
    5) Poor pass blocking. This has been the most improved area on the team since week 2 IMO, but we did see the issue for the first couple of weeks. It was probably an issue of inexperience for Clarke and in conjunction with that the line working together.
    6) Poor defense overall.

I would agree that record in preseason doesn't mean chit but it seems like we carried the same blatent issues into the regular season. So really, I wonder if preseason is more telling than many believe.

I am also starting to believe that the offense will look as good as it did with Clemens in the preseason when he does get in. I know he was playing against lesser competition but the man kinda lit it up.

It is true, our pre-season looked awful. And as the season got closer, it seemed that nothing was getting corrected, which did not bode well for the season. Mangini and the players said it would be different when the season began, but of course it wasn't. This coaching staff, which prides itself on game preparation, really screwed up bigtime.

Game preparation -- civic minded players -- great practices -- blah blah blah.... It didn't mean a damn thing, because our team looks like crap!

Dude, I agree with your 100%. The record means nothing but from game one of the pre-season, we could not do anything you listed and has continued. I told a buddy of mine who was away in August whond did not see any pre-season games that they looked awful in the pre-season and they could not run, pass block, stop the run and zero pass rush and how concerned I was. I mean the first teams never looked good the whole pre-season

They forgot it's the regular season, we are still playing a vanilla offense and defense, don't read too much into it.

Good points; I just can't figure out what he heck is wrong with this team. They certainly aren't buring on all eight cylinders.

When the only team you have beaten is Miami; that isn't saying much.

Dude, this is a dumb post. Everyone knows the presason means absolutely nothing. Its not like all the problems you listed suddenly appeared in the preaseason and are now lingering into the regular season. ALL of the issued u listed were problems we had last regular season. We didnt attempt to correct any of them, hence they still are with the team.

I completely disagree that these were all problems at the end of last season. This team was playing much better last season.

I said it in a thread yesterday. They appear to have quit on Mangini. If you watched any of the MNF game last night you saw how a bunch of 3rd stringers on defense can look if they are motivated to play.

agreed as well...... record doesn't mean shit, but you can see when you watch the first units what your going to get in terms of the fundamentals...

I mean of course we don't see the play calling...... but all the physical stuff, bloccking, pass rushing, running game, run D..... hasn't looked good from the start

I gotta say, as much as I think Carl Banks sucks on the FAN, he has basically said from week 1 the Jets biggest problem is the point of attack on both sides of the ball......nail on the head
