I haven't heard anything about Penny throwing. I was wondering because some other injured QB's are doing well in rehab and we haven't heard anything about Pennington.
nah...he working on those little dump off patterns that Vinny taught him...the old playfake and right back to the RB for 2 yards...SCORE!!!!
Hahaha...so damn pointless. The playfake is only good when you have an actual arm. If by the time you get the ball there anybody can recover, you don't achieve anything doing it. That's also sort of the philosophy on pump fakes, you pump on what looks to be one route (like run a hook, then next play run a stutter fly) to make a defender bite, and then throw the opposite direction. I don't understand how a QB with a weak arm can ever be great, because you can't utilize half the techniques a stronger armed QB can utilize. Note, I'm not saying you need a rocket, I'm just saying you have to have enough on your fastball that defenders can't recover from playfakes, pumps, and other important timing tactics. It's why I'd stay away from Leinart, but atleast he has a stronger arm than Chad. Actually, in the Meadowlands, you probably want a stronger arm than average because of the wind towards the end of the season. Let's go for Cutler or we'll let Ramsey get a shot.
im giving chad one more shot despite my cracks at his ability to crumble like a piece of paper...maybe im not thinking this one thru... but if penny falls apart one more time...the only thing i can think of is:shit:
yes indeedio!!! i love chad and i think he had a great future ahead of him, unfortunately he could never stay/get healthy and that has hurt him tremendously, this is his longest recovery time and it will be the deciding factor to find out if he can play to his 2002 CHAD level ever again....we can only hope!! i'd just hate to burn him now and watch him play for another team in 3 years for a superbowl...i would cry
I'd love nothing better than to see the comeback story of the century. Pennington, the underdog's underdog. Now that's a treat. And, I'd love to see a smirk on that apple-pie face of his if he is blessed enough by both random chaos and miraculous healing to pull it off. I don't know, I always have this nagging feeling in my gut that true success not coming to fruition with him at the helm reeks of unfulfilled destiny. Call me sentimental, but I have a hard time forgetting the mojo that was. Go ahead, trounce out the hospital balls. But that's the thing - they WERE hospital balls. Literally. If he doesn't give us all an amazing jolt of surprise, all the naysayers will say "I told you so." Fair, yet easy enough. If he does, MOST of the naysayers will say "I didn't want to jinx it by saying my true feelings out loud." Fair, yet easy enough. Me, I'm realistic yet quietly hopeful. Pony up if Ope pulls a fast one. That's all I have to say about that.
All along I have been quite clear in my hope for Chad's return. I believe he can do it as well. This isn't 1960, in 2006, the surgical ability and recovery techniques are very good. Hell, look at Tommy John surgery. Just 2 decades ago, it was a career ending surgery. Now, it's barely a year recovery time, and someone can throw 90 again, in some cases, even better than before. Having the same injury twice is a mark against Chad. Combine that with the fact that he caused further damage the first time by playing with the initial injury and the chances of a successful recovery are slimmer. However, a big, yet often underestimated key to recovery is heart. If anyone ever had the pure desire to make a full recovery from a torn cuff it's Chad. People have been ripping the "towel boy" for months, but to me, waving that towel shows why, if anyone, Chad can make this recovery. Im willing to go on record and say that I believe Chad will be back as the starter at some point this year. I'll even go one step further, and say that I believe that once he starts, he will have the job until he gives it up himself. People may rip me for it, but I trust in Penny.
I believe in Penny. I like our QB's right now, they will compete hard for the starting job and if neither works out then we can draft a QB NEXT year. We're in no hurry, rebuilding will take a while. I'm pulling for Chad though, and I think he can make a recovery and be great QB again.
Exactly this is modern medicine. While 30 years ago this injury might have been career ending, do you think since that time theres been no strides in medicine? People tear acl's like loose leaf nowadays, and come back to top form. Anyhow I beleive in Chad. One thing nobody doubts is his work ethic. Im pulling for you Chad.
Go Chad!! I feel for the guy and all the bad luck he's had. He coulda been special! Ooops, there I go in the past tense. Well, it appears we are stuck with him for one more go around and I'm going to root for him to pull it out and make an amazing comeback. Third times the charm they say...
I'm with you guys rooting for Penny's return. I'm not sure if he can do it, but in this instance, I'd be glad to be wrong.
