The way these "experts" are talking, you would think that the Packers have already been handed George Halas Trophy! I think the entire league is pretty open this year, and at this point, I could see the Giants, 49ers, and possibly New Orleans beat the Packers (If Breeze gets back to form).
well the NFL does have a sense of humor and all it takes is an injury here or there to bring them back down to earth.
Of course not. There's no such thing as a lock to make the Super Bowl; they're just the presumptive favorite.
I'd love nothing more than the much publicized HFA they have at Lambeau to be a major contributor to their downfall.
Anybody can be beat on a given day, which is why the NFL playoffs are awesome. So no, they're not a lock, but they're as close to flawless team at the moment as you are likely to see in any given year.
They aren't a lock, but right now they are the best team. The best team doesn't always win. However, they're playing like a friggin video game.
No way. No team is a lock to make the Super Bowl, especially not a team that sucks on defense. We've repeatedly seen great offensive teams get upset in the playoffs. It's very hard to win a shootout every week, and if the Pack run into a ball control offense that can keep Rodgers off the field for long stretches (like the Jets did to Brady last year,) they'll be in trouble. San Fran could be that team. So could New Orleans--hell, the Saints have already come within one bad play call of beating the Packers on the road.
there's never a lock. as far as their defense, they give up a ton of yards and sometimes points, but they also get a lot of turnovers and their defense scores points too. im pretty sure they lead the league in defensive TDs and are top 3 in takeaways some of the coverage against san diego was a joke at the end but they also picked off rivers 3 times and had 2 defensive TDs the thing is, aaron rodgers looks unstoppable and in sync with his receivers. New Orleans matches up pretty well with them, but other than that i don't see any team in the NFC capable of giving them a lot of trouble. maybe a healthy giants team because of their pass rush and ability to put up points.
Thats being a little misleading don't you think, being that NO was down by eight. At best you could say that they were one bad play call and a 2-pt conversion from forcing overtime against the Packers on the road. That is a far cry from being a single play away from winning.
there are never locks, but if there ever were then green bay is the closest were ever going to get to one.
I really don't see the 49ers beating the Packers.... people are on that bandwagon way too fast. I do think there are a few other NFC teams with a decent shot though.
the niners kind of remind me of our 2009 team except they're better up front on defense and while Alex smith is more experienced/less turnover prone than Sanchez was, he can't make the same throws that Sanchez can. Alex Smith has played really well in managing the game but you really wonder if they're down by two scores against a good team if they can really rally. they came back against the eagles but the eagles also self destructed and have been horrible in half their games. can't see that happening against the packers or saints
You're right, for some reason I thought that was a 6 point game. In any case, New Orleans had plenty of unforced errors and squandered opportunities in that game--it's not hard for me to imagine Brees going into Lambeau and winning a shootout. I don't think that the 49ers are anywhere close to as good a team as the Packers, but I can see a path to victory for them. If they can ride Gore to keep Rodgers off the field for long stretches and force a turnover or two, then they can steal one in much the same way that we stole one in San Diego 2 years ago. It's not likely, but it's plausible enough to make calling the Packers (or any NFL team, really) a lock very silly.
I hope they are. 9 points, a bad defense, and an improving Schottenheimer makes that our best bet to win the SB.
