I believe that we are in need of a pass-rushing OLB. Correct? I was under the impression that Hawk was an ILB and that he would be worthless in our system because we already have Vilma and Kassel. However, I saw on nfldraftcountdown that Hawk is projected as an OLB. I'm a homer for Vince Young, but the prospect of Hawk and Vilma starting together is intruiging.

He can play either position. Scouts say he may best be suited as an outside linebacker in a 4-3.

Probably outside in the 4-3 but inside in the 3-4

Why would he be worthless in our system if we have Vilma and Kassel? Do we only play 11 guys on defense? Right now we don't even have any players who fit the outside 3-4 linebacker style (6-2+ 240+ who can rusher the passer, drop into coverage and cover) and AJ Hawk is not the prototype 3-4 backer. With that being said I think he's the closest thing to a sure thing in this draft. I think having him and Vilma together would an awesome start to a defense. They would need a big fat load at NT so they wouldn't have to spend the entire game shedding blockers. With that being said I'll take an end like Mario Williams over Hawk even if he's less of a sure thing.

You know what I mean. He still has value, but wouldn't be utilized to his fullest potential (having to rotate in and out).

How do you quote someone btw? It never puts the person's name in the quote for me.

Just press quote at the end of the other persons post. Yeah but the way our front office thinks their goal is going to be to get 50+ players who can contribute. Even if we take Mario Williams he's still going to rotate with Ellis and Kimo. If we take an offensive player it's a different story.
