Just mentioned this on PTI on ESPN: When Revis is on the field opponents complete just over 50% of passes on the Jets defense. When Revis isnt playing opponents complete 74% of passes on the Jets defense.
I'm not sure the #s being floated are accurate b/c I saw those along w/ INT #s and it said we had zero in the last 2 years w/o him when we had 2 in week 2 of 2010 vs. NE after revis left in the 1st half.
that's misleading then b/c they played the entire 2nd half w/o him against one of the best offenses in the league against the best QB in the league picking him off twice and shutting them out.
Yeah and Tom Brady was 7-16 with Revis not on the field and 13-20 with him on, including both TD passes, one of which was the Moss over Revis TD. Roethlisberger went 24-31 week 2 with no Revis. That stat heavily weights anything in the last two years without Revis.
I have to think those numbers were just from this year, but we did play without Revis the second half against Buffalo when we were running the prevent of doom, and the Steeler game as well as down the stretch yesterday. I'll believe 74% from this season, not overall. I don't think those are career numbers and I was watching the show too.
Pitt has possibly the best and deepest WR corps in the NFL w/ an elusive QB. Not many teams can come close to matching what Pitt can do through the air.
Keep in mind our defense has always been built around Revis, so when he suddenly is out of the game, we have no time to 'rebuild' on the fly. When Revis was holding out of training camp during hard knocks, what was Rex doing to prepare for starting the season w/o Revis? I can't remember, but whatever it was, look for more of the same.
We won a bunch without Revis in 2010. We can do it again. Our secondary is better now. The loss hurts, but it can be overcome. Sanchez has to get it done again. Hill will improve over time. Holmes has to be the go to guy with a side dish of Kerley. We also need Keller badly.
They also said Revis has only missed 3 games in his career and has played 97% of all snaps. The sample size is too small for playing without him.
