Is it just me, or do the Jets seem to be having a lot more injuries this year than in previous years? It seems like every week 2-3 more players go down. Are the players not in shape, or is this a result of the new CBA agreement where they don't get to practice enough and hit enough in practice to get used to it? Thoughts?
Not really that many injuries this year. Bigger problem is that Brian Winters (last couple games) and Geno Smith (this game) are injuries we can not afford.
Not really that many injuries? Look at those on IR. Lee was out today, Mo was out. Harris missed last week. Winters has been out. Mangold left the game injured, as did Geno and Bruce Carter. I don't remember the Jets any time recently having this many injuries, and having starters miss games. I remember discussions how the Jets seemed to stay healthier than other teams. I definititely think we're having more injuries this season than normal.
I think Joe Willy made a good point about the severity of Geno's injury.. If Geno was soooo hurt, why was he standing on the sidelines the entire 2nd half?
Probably because it was unlikely that two 300 lb defensive linemen would grab his injured leg and make a wish. If they start Geno against Cleveland next week and he gets injured it is Mark Sanchez all over again.
That does sound suspicious. I definitely think Geno gave the team a spark and more energy. I only got to see the first 10-15 minutes of the game then had to do go to a rehearsal. Geno looked like a real NFL QB as opposed to Fitz. His throws were crisp and accurate. Aside from Edwards screwing the pooch on his first punt attempt, I thought both the offense and defense looked sharper and more energized.
Defiitely. Most teams have. I wasn't using that as an excuse for the crappy play. It just seems like we've had more injuries than normal. Maybe it's karma catching up with us, but whatever the case, the backups have to step in, step up and play well.
There's a difference though between bad enough to not play football and not stand around. Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk
On the Geno front, it did seem odd that a QB that is so injured (leg) that he is almost immediately disclosed as not available to return is standing on the sidelines an entire half in street clothes when there is only 1 other QB even dressed. Conspiracy theorists could easily see that as the coaching staff/front office wanted any excuse to get back to Fitz.
Joe Willie is drunk I was a few rows up from the Jets bench and Geno tried to stand up and immediately collapsed because of pain or instability After they checked his leg out, he pleaded with him that he was fine and started jogging in place but they made him go back to get checked out Maybe they plan on starting him for a while and didn't want to risk a strain or something...I have no idea
Kinda makes you look like a dick now Dosent it?! Haha In all seriousness at the time I thought the same thing. Even noticed him walking up the ramp during JPGL without a limp. Guess he's getting a 2nd opinion today...
Since his knee was that busted, why was he standing on it the entire 2nd half instead of sitting his ass down? Adrenaline may have made the injury even worse. Suppose he goes back in like he felt he could? Geno may have made things worse all by himself. Appearances can be deceiving can't they...
Wish I could add some great insight, but can't. The best I can come up with is: SH*T HAPPENS! Just seems to be the Jets year for injuries. I thought it might be age, but the Jets are ranked 21st in oldest NFL teams. However, they were older last year (27th, probably because of Calvin Pace LOL) and seem to have had fewer injuries. I remember when Coughlin said "injuries are a curse." He caught a lot of flak for that comment.
Funny, one of the biggest selling points for bringing TB in as coach was how he kept the Arizona Defense humming right along despite having about 37 players on IR his last year there. I can't complain about the sales job, though: Jets are losing at the same rate no matter how healthy or hurt....
