I was thinking about next week, and I believe the Jets can clinch the division with a win next Sunday, and a Pats loss (Cards) and Miami loss (KC). Or am I miscalculating something? Either way, I know it wasn't pretty today, but we won the game and we came up with a huge play at a very opportune moment. Without it, we would be on the outside looking in, and it would look very bleak. It isn't, so today the glass is half full. GO JETS:breakdance:
Yeah, we could clinch the division that way, but it's unlikely. I actually think there's a better shot of KC beating Miami than there is of Arizona beating NE. Zona looked AWFUL today and seem to just be relaxing out there now that everything has been clinched. Miami, on the other hand, struggle to beat bad teams and could run into trouble vs a KC team with a surprisingly good offense. Maybe Herm will do something to help us for a change.
I believe you are miscalculating if the Jets win and Miami and NE loses, a Jets lost to Miami, Miami or NE would win the East.
yup. The division comes down to week 17 Jets fins. if the jets win they get the division at 11-5/10-6. if the fins win they get teh division unless the pats win out (looking likely with zona apparently relaxing)
how so. If we win next week and Miami and NE losses. Then in week 17 we lose and Miami and NE win, we all finish with 7-5 conference records and 4-2 Division records. How does the next tiebreaker roll out?
If the Jets lose next week to Seattle, Week 17 could be an irrelevant game. Here's how: If the Jets lose, Mia wins, Balt wins their next two, and NE wins their next two, the Pats would clinch the division at 11-5 and Baltimore would clinch the wild card at 11-5. That means we'd be playing as a 9-6 team for what? It'd be over. We'll probably be playing on Sunday Night too.
i think the scenario presented was if the pats and the fins lose next week and the jets win. in that scenario I think we lose to mia the following week it will come down to the tie-breaker of best record in playing similar teams. And I don't know who that is.
We need to win both games to win the division. If we lose next week, Miami has to lose next week (and against us obviously) and the patriots have to lose one of the next two in order for us to win the division. Basically, we need to win both weeks. I don't want to rely on other teams to make the playoffs. I want the Jets to win it for themselves
No, I don't believe so. Because even if both Miami and NE lose next week and we win, if Miami were to beat us in week 17, they would have the same division record as us and the tie-breaker would go to common opponents and that is where we would lose.
If Ne had lost yesterday next week's game would have been meaningless as far as the divisin goes(if NE loses Sunday it will still be meaningless). The div title comes down to week 17 as long as we win Sunday or NE loses.
We can lose this week and beat Miami and as long as NE loses one game then we would still win the division. All teams would be 10-6 and we would be 5-1 in the division.
The bottom line is if we don't win the division we are out of the playoffs. And Mangini will be so fired so quick that if you blink you may miss it.
We've won 7 of our last 8. We haven't allowed a TD in over 3 games. We haven't turned the ball over more than once in any game this season, and we're on pace to set an NFL record with fewest turnovers in a season. We haven't struggled to beat "bad" teams any more than you have. True, we could lose next week but I don't think we have any less of a chance than N.E or you guys for that matter.
In the midst of all this "excitement" you apparently forgot to look at the discussion already going on & failed to see that this has all already been explored in way more detail than you've given. This thread is pretty much redundant. http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=39580
