I know I am a glass half empty guy but that only comes from being a long time Jets. With some money in the bank some thoughts on what I beleive Tanny should have gotten done before this season starts. 1. Am I the only one who still questions Shonn Greene's durability? After him we have NOTHING. I am sure Ronnie Brown would have loved to play in AFC EAST. For 1M or basically 500,000 more than Bilal Powell, we could have had Ronnie Brown to fill in if someone goes down. Ronnie Brown vs. Bilal Powell, are you kidding me. And he runs WILDCAT! 2. After Rob Turner went down we have NOTHING as backup for O line. For 1.5M we could have had Andre Gurode to back up center and both guards. Thats roughly only 1M more than we have to pay Caleb Schlauderaff or Colin Baxter. Andre Gurode vs Caleb Schlauderaff or Colin Baxter are you kidding me. 3. As the Jets have a great defense and highly questionable offense at times no team should value kicking game more than us. 3 points can often be the difference in games and with our defense, field position on punts is huge. I think the Jets have argueably the worst kicking combination in league. How is this possible? Kicking game should be huge for us! Nick Folk is a hold your breath guy every kick (did someone say Neil Rackers was a free agent) and TJ Conley - C'MON MAN. Hope I am wrong but I think these are 3 things we needed that Tanny missed on. Having said my peace lets cross our fingers and strap em up. LETS GO JETS!
Moves had to be made before FA this year so they drafted a RB and you cannot question Shonn Greene's durability since he has never had the opportunity to be a feature back and then ask for ronnie Brown who has proven he is not durable.
With the cap there will always be holes on every team...more so when you are constantly trading draft picks, which are ultimately good, young, cheap players to round out your squad with depth. With regards to our current cap hit, none of us know the true inner workings of the Jets position in the present and the future. If Tanny is holding us far under the cap, there is a reason. Most likely to set us up for success for the foreseeable future.
I like to randomly predict things that haven't happened and then worry about them. So I'm with the OP on this.
I'm not worried about Greene's durability. We have 4 RB's, plus a FB who can catch (Conner), not to mention one of them is LT. As far as the O-line goes, I have my concerns as well, but really we aren't in much different position than last year. We lost Woody, which sucks, and Turner was a solid depth guy... but the new guy Schlauderaff seems like he can play guard pretty well, and Ducasse is going to need to step up sooner or later. Now as far as kicking goes... at first I was really not a fan of Nick Folk, but he did great for us last year. Remember he is a former pro-bowler, and he just had 1 bad year with Dallas. Like all kickers in this league, they go on hot streaks and when they get cold, they get dumped. Right now he's doing fine, imo. As far as Conley goes, the jury is still out for me. So all-in-all, I'm not too concerned about these issues.
I'll give you the kicking game. Folk is OK and we could have gotten better there but the rest of it you are talking about possible injuries and back-ups not starters. Personally, I am more worried if Sanchez goes down because Brunell has not even taken a snap yet and I don't believe he is healthy. You could pick apart every team in the league like this by talking about backups.
Yeah, Ducasse is a bit of an enigma. One week he is horrible and the next week he does ok. I don't know if it's because of the competition or if he is getting better. They will have to get him some reps at some point this year to see.
I don't know how we go into the year without a better edge rusher - if we had someone who could get to the QB we'd be deadly
Personally I would take a run @ Robert Mathis and make hil OLB- you'd have to give him $$, as he is unhappy with his contract, but I thought we would have been better served passing on Cromartie - use the $ on a rusher, and we could have held onto Coleman and gotten another lower tier CB to a one year deal
I think this board would be better served if you stopped with this outlandish ideas. Robert Mathis would get raped as a 3-4 OLB. Drew Coleman and this "lower tier CB" would get raped as a starting corners.
