In 2008 when the Jets traded for 38 years old Brett why did the media call it a publicity stunt?

In 2020 when the Bucs sign 45 years old Tom Brady it's considered a astute football move?

Well, Brett Favre had not been to a Super Bowl in the 10 seasons before he became a Jet, and had retired.

Brady won his most recent Super Bowl with only 1 season between his Buccaneer move.

Maybe because Favre is not Brady. In my opinion your post was very silly:mad:

Because no one called it a publicity stunt at the time?

Thats only something Jets fans especially those who complain about the owner, use against him. They like to make the claim that Woody forced the deal to sell tickets or win the back pages or whatever else they can dream up.

This thread is more of a publicity stunt.

I kinda of recall Favre wanting to go to the Vikings really bad but GB said "No", so Brett 'retired', then signed a 1yr with the Jets with a contract with a poison pill that would send him to the Vikings the following season. Nothing GB could do about it. GB was pissed and wanted that contract investigated. Jets were a stepping stone in Brett's journey from GB to Vikings.

We paid him $15m (a lot at that time) for one 'all or nothing' season which started out pretty good. I recall the Jets going into the previously undefeated Titans (10-0) and beating them on MNF. Brett tore a muscle in his throwing arm that game and the rest is history....we lost the rest of our games and Brett was off to the Viks.

I could be wrong but I think we shipped Penny off to Miami to make room for Favre.

We traded for him. I don't remember the contract terms.

I wouldn't exactly call it a "publicity stunt", but of course it was to sell tickets. That isn't maligning Woody Johnson, which I can easily do on a daily basis.

Talk about publicity, what about the Brett Pevre cock and balls shots to Unnecessary Jenn Sterger? Yecch, terrible, but let me explain what I mean by that. I hated her, and I'm not saying that I condoned the sexual harassment, but the funny part is Brett Pevre had out one of the ugliest packages I've ever seen. And I can't ever unsee it.

Too bad we didnt have Favre when Rex came, perhaps would've gotten us a SB with that defense and running game.

Certainly possible. He had a good season with the Vikings that following year. That Jets team was stacked, he could have probably won the SB if he stayed.

To this day he's the toughest QB I've ever seen play.

And possibly the most fun to watch too.

They made it to back to back AFC Championship games with Buttfumble at QB with Brett they would've had one of the greatest teams ever.

Alas it never would've happened even though it could've & should've happened. Brett wanted revenge on Green Bay and the Jets used the money they saved by not having Brett on the roster to bring in some key free agents on those 2009-2010 teams.

To this day that #2 ranking on the power rankings after the Jets whipped 10-0 Tennessee in Tennessee and New England on the road is the highest I've ever seen the Jets ranked.

Of course the bottom fell out because it's the Jets we never seem to get the happy ending.

We're close to sold out every game. We're top 5 in attendance every year. Fans still manage to complain that so many moves are made just to sell tickets. Its kind of the fall back argument.
