Seeing as the Jets plan on a conservative offense and aggressive defense, it seems to be that there will hopefully be a lot of low scoring, close games, therefore the 3-pointers should play a big-time role. I'm hoping that Feely can have a good year because it looks like he's going to be more important to our team than a kicker has been in a long time. I doubt our offense is going to move quickly down the field for TDs. It sure would be nice to have an automatic kicker under 50 yards if we can get it close.

I distinctly remember Parcells working on an ulcer from the sidelines every time he sent John Hall in for a big field goal. It would be nice not to have that feeling. Of course I think Parcells hated every kicker that ever played for him.

Feely is solid. I usually hate kickers too.

I hope so too. I don't get upset when a kicker misses a 54 yarder, that's a long damn kick. It's when those 35 yarders start sailing left or right.........that's when I get pissed.

any kick 40 yds and under in normal conditions should be automatic for kickers

STs will be huge for us, we need a good year from our punter to help w/ FP. That killed us last year(along w/ all the TOs). I feel good about the KR and our return game but we need better coverage and a better punting game.

They also should be well conditioned, in order to win those physical tough games, butttt you don't see me caring about Sal Alosi.

I have confidence in our Special Teams. Westhoff is the best in the game. As for Feely, he has been solid in the past, no reason to expect anything different.

If it was just the kicker that determined it, it would be almost an automatic. There is also a snapper and a holder to contend with.

I was going to say somethign to that extent. Hell, give me a tee and no wind and I'm automatic from 40 yards in, but there is no way in hell that I'm doing it in the NFL. Far too much goes into it and most of these guys are very good at what they do. Not to mention have one of the most thankless jobs in the history of sports.

Is there a less thankless job in all of sports? as far as players go?

I mean if they make a kick unless its a game winner, nobody cares. But if they miss the kick people are calling for their heads. If they miss a would-be game winner? well look at what we did to doug brien, did the guy ever get another kicking job in the NFL?

The long snapper is the most thankless position in all of sports. No one will know your name until you mess up that one snap.

We've had great ones for the past decade plus w/ John Hudson and James Dearth and I believe Brad Banta was our LS for a year and he was good as well.

I know I just wanted to mention ours since they don't get mentioned often and we've had good ones.

James Dearth is the best LS in the league.

James Dearth looks like Sloth from The Goonies.

I don't care if Feely hit 80% of his kicks last season and had that nice kick in Seattle, I will NEVER forget his complete meltdown with the Giants and I will never be comfortable with a kick of his, never.

As for the punting game, I really like Reggie Hodges but this Conley kid brings the next avg in the NCAA and he looked pretty good from what I saw in Minicamps. He also was a QB for his first 3 years of college so it's another Tom Tupa like scenario.
