Given his current contract we would be paying a lot of money for a safety that needs on the job training.
I don't know how they can make that assessment. For his entire career Revis has been the "island" guy playing man coverage. He never had to read an offense as plays develop, he didn't really have to be concerned much pre-snap either unless there was no one on his side. When he went to Tampa and played in a zone D where he had to read the offense he pretty much sucked. As a FS that will be his job, play zone center field, read the offense and give help to the CB. He's never done it as a FS and when he did at CB he was awful, it's like teaching a rookie all over again. Add to this the fact he's on his way out and doesn't way a life altering injury and they've got a FS who can't play the position and either can't or won't hit any longer. I say dump him.
Phuck Revi$! Hopefully, the new DB assistant was just being respectful of Revi$ and Revi$ is NOT in their plans for 2017. Revi$ doesn't have the requisite speed or tackling ability to be anything more than a mediocre FS. If we're satisfied with a mediocre FS, we might as well keep Gilchrist. He'll be a lot cheaper than Revi$.
The very idea of keeping Revis and paying him one more damn dime is insane, at CB, safety, whatever! Bill Parcells always preached that a good safety has to be a good tackler. Rives shied away from all contact last year, and was the most overpaid underperformer in the history of the NFL. I believe that Revis was the worst starter in the entire NFL last year. Knowing how STUPID Todd toilet Bowles is, he is probably actually considering bringing Revis back to play safety at his current contract!
It won't matter how much he's making when he continually gets his ass beat deep. Even if he played for free, he's still a liability on the back end.
The new coach made that statement to butter up the Defensive group. Some of them want Revis to stay and some to go. It's up to Bowles and Mac...and I sure hope that they can him. He's outlived his usefulness and is over paid.
Thank you! Idk why everyone seems to think this is a good idea. Revis has never been a ball hawking bunch of interceptions player, he didn't want to tackle anyone last year, and, as you pointed out, he's not gonna read defenses. What makes him a good candidate for FS??
I don't really trust a lot of the stuff macc or bowles say regarding players. As we've seen throughout the past 2 seasons, they seem to do the opposite of what they say publicly. Unless they restructure his contract heavily, I really don't think he will be back
Trouble is, we have way too many holes to fill - yea dumping Revis would feel good but you still have to replace him. It's not like we're going to make a Super Bowl run in the next decade or so....
