I wanted to make a poll, but maybe I don't have enough posts for it, I'm not sure. Anyway, I just wanted to say that the only real reason people are so upset is because of the 3-0 start. I really like Rex Ryan. A hell of a lot more then I did Mangini or Herm Edwards. I think Sanchez might be a good QB but it is his rookie season and he didn't play a lot of college football to really prepare so I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. What I'd like to see out of this team for the next 6 games is to not panic and to work towards getting the team to gel considerably. To get tighter. To develop the offensive and defensive playbooks in such a way that there isn't any more confusion, or at least minimizing it considerably. Next year, hopefully we draft really well and put ourselves in a position to win without talking so much smack and with getting more consistency out of all three phases of the game. We have all the elements (provided Sanchez works out) to be a championship caliber team. We really need some cohesion and some hard work. I think Rex and Sanchez will come into their own when the pressure is off. I really don't like how the league is in such a "what can you do for me right now" mindset, and I appreciate the work Tennenbaum and Woody have done to get us the tools for a championship, I just never expected it to happen over night. I am fine with a building team and I think we'll be much more solid next year and the year after. Is anyone else with me? Okay with how it's panning out, provided they can get it tighter and minimize mistakes and maximize cohesion? Think we have a good team that may take a year or two to gel effectively? I just see so much freaking out all over the place for Jets fans and I really feel like it's a bit unjustified at this point. I mean, this already, even with our record, feels like it's going to be a much better organization then we've seen in years. :jets:
No way. The record is perhaps what might have been expected, but to blow so many winnable games is heartbreaking and I'm a long, long way from okay with that.
I'm not okay with the season by any stretch.....but I also somewhat expected it....given we have a rookie coach and QB. If we ended up 4-12 this year...it wouldn't sting as much as if Sanchez was in his 3rd year and playing like this....plus we've had some significant injuries....that's the nature of the beast. EDIT: Given the projected talent in the upcoming draft...this would be the year to shit the bed anyway. We need to infuse some young talent on to this roster in the worst way.
It's a disappointment, sure, but I am just under the understanding that it's a rookie HC and QB and it's very difficult to win in the NFL. I think we're not near anything drastic such as changing coaches or starters just yet. Maybe next year, imo. I just think that patience is a virtue and we should give them a bit of time and understanding.
The OP's reference to the 3-0 start leaves out why the current situation is so off putting, and that is because the team has lost 6 of its last seven. Those meaning the seven games most recently played. Against teams like Buffalo, Miami (who was 1-4 the first game), the Jags (a good but not great team). In other words, this is a team that is trending badly. That is why the season is not one we should be okay with. Things are getting worse, not better.
you're in the minority on this board with that line of thinking, my friend. But you and I share the same view.
The team is pretty young overall, which is good. There's just a few positions we could definitely use some depth at. There's a lot of positives, I think, to take out of what's going on so far and what the future might hold. That's all, it's just a bit of a neutral or positive thread amid the sea of "we're doomed" threads out there
we are young at most positions....but the Dline is aging rapidly.....and players like Larry Izzo have to go.
Believe me, I am sorely disappointed so far after the start and trash talking and everything, but I've been saying "same old Jets" since the first Miami game. I just am trying to think of the team as a work in progress with a lot of potential for the next few years. It's the only way to combat the suicidal tendencies...
Yes, we are getting worse, but isn't that to be expected? We've had season-ending injuries to our (second) best defensive player and our best running back, as well as injuries to our best safety, our second best corner (Lowery), our third best corner (Strickland) our fourth best corner (Sheppard) and our best wide receiver. We also tried to jam in a brand new player (Edwards) instead of holding on to a promising, and more importantly, well-trained wide receiver in Stuckey. We got FUCKED IN THE ASS by the injury bug this year, Jets fans. It happens. It doesn't mean we're a bad team. Many of you pointed out before the season "Hey, we've got no depth, we're fucked if any of our starters go down." Well, you were all right! We're fucked, but, with the exception of this past game, we're a bitch to beat every Sunday. And forget that "good teams find a way to win despite injuries" crap. The last two teams to win the AFC East didn't (won't) make the playoffs the following season because key players went down with injuries.
so you're okay with the record.. but not with the way we got there.. I'd rather be contenders in every game and just have one thing wrong happen in every game than get killed.. i like to think that these are all fixable problem.. and would rather lose a close game.. than get completely outplayed..
I think overall Rex will be a good head coach and I hope we stick with him for a while and stop the merry go-round . I was not in favor of getting rid of Schotty but it would be nice to get a big name offensive minded coach in here and slap assistant HC on him too. Someone that has a proven record with developing young QB's. A dream situation would be to get Shanahan running our offense and Rex running the defense.
Exactly! The season feels like it's really not quite as bad as a 4-6 record makes it out to be. 4-6 with all 6 games losing by an average of 20+ points is much different from the way they actually played out. In some of those games our rookie QB turned the ball over 2-5 times and most of the time we were still in it. We have some things to fix, but we're definitely not near the bottom of the barrel. We're probably the best team with a sub .500 record right now as far as players and coaching is concerned (considering potential!)
i usually hate those terms.. the best of the worst type deal.. but in our case it couldn't be more true.. aside from FIXABLE mistakes here and there.. we have a solid team with A LOT of potential.. dare i say... next season is our season... i think i hate that more than anything... but hell.. im a Jets fan..
I think the main reason one might have at least hoped things would improve as the season went on, or at least this aspect would, would concern the Qb and his being in synch with the receivers. Particularly Edwards, who was not here when the season started. The logic of picking him up was that he would help out this year. That has not happened.
Everyone points to the LW and KJ injuries but yanno what? LW wasn't lighting it up when he was healthy on KR's or RB. KJ hurt more but overall, injuries really didn't devastate this team as some would have you believe. I had this team 7-9 but given their play of late and the state of the CS, I doubt if this team wins another game this season or if they do beat TB, it will be a "cream of the crap" bowl. Not quite as bad as Cleveland/Detroit but pretty damn bad. I see them a 4-12 team which would make them 1-11 since week 3. How in the world anyone can be "OK" with this is beyond me. This CS has no effective plan to turn around either the rookie QB or the team as a whole. Hell, the HC is still learning how to be HC. 2009 was doomed from the beginning and the light at the end of the tunnel is probably a southbound freighttrain in the form of 2010 with the same plan and personnel. Good thing for Woody he has a fanbase that is "OK" with how this season is playing out. I wonder how those PSL's are selling these days considering all the effort he's put into making a splash..
This is the worst I've felt about a season in a long time and as a Jet fan that's saying something. I truly wish that the season would just end already. I keep thinking that it can't get worse but every week it does.
Love this thread. Why don't you post more often SHRIKE? Seriously, you've been here two years and you're holding back your ability to hold intelligent conversation...why? Anyway, I said coming into this season that this was a 4 win team, and that any wins above that were gravy. Unfortunately, it's playing out like that after getting even my hopes up. It happens. Key injuries. Too much reliance on trickery. Rookie HC and QB. People who think we should be fighting through, or that we should be any better than our record, are setting themselves up for disappointment. This was a blackboard year. Rex is drawing it all out and the team is absorbing it. I'm a little disheartened to see a lack of fire lately on the field, but it's hard to get up when you keep getting kicked back down. Next year this team will be better. Two years from now we should be ready for a legit title run. This coming draft is going to be critical to both Rex's and Tanny's future with the team. They tried to "win now" and it didn't work. So now they have to build off the pieces they have.
