more and more each week at DE. This kid makes plays. He's big and athletic. I really think he needs to play every down, because he can only get better. We might have a sleeper here.

He can be a backup on this D-line or maybe get in when we need some more speed at Kimo's spot.

It could, but that means Robertson would have to play himself out of a spot, and I don't see that happening. I do see Ball replacing Kimo at some point.

he looks excellent in he 3-4 defense..i think he has a future at one of those De spots.. when kimo decides to hang it up.

how long was kimos contract?? Because if all goes well and kimo does help us to being a superbowl/playoff contender in two/possibly three years then will be play on another year or two or doesnt he have that long in him

Agreed. I really liked his hustle, too. I'm not sure he's starter quality, but he reminds me of Matt Walters.

On a related note: Ellis is one powerful mofo.

I don't see how he is exactly "big" as a 3-4 DE as some say...277 pounds is extremely light...His high motor and relentless attitude make it work, but he couldn't do that for 20 snaps a game without getting over-powered...

Ball was an animal last night. An unfettered, uncaged, rabid wildebeest high on PCP.

Someone should goto a chargers board and find out if he is a preseason player who looks bad when the season starts

I woyld say 277 ia close to average. The big run stuffing DEs are around 290 and the speed guys are in the 260s so high 270s is pretty good. I think Abe is even less than 260....

you're talkin about 4-3 DEs right? dave ball is 6'5, 277lbs, thats pretty small for a 3-4 DE if you look around the league

He is a depth player, a role player, and is not going to be a starter. But there's nothing wrong with being pleasantly surprised by his performance last night.

I thought he played great last night. Running all over the place.

  17. Ive been impressed w/ Ball all offseason.

I expect us to keep a good number of D-linemen as we will be showing O's alot of different looks which will require a versatile and big rotation.

Ellis, Kimo, D Rob, Ball, and Adams will all have active roles w/ occassional appearances from BT and Johnson(Pouha on IR as well)

kimo is getting ready for the season--not looking to score brownie points. the guys up front are hardly competing for spots. the jets have no depth as it is. he is a wise old vet and he is not going to do his thing till the bell rings.

In limited snaps late last year he played very well also. Bradway maybe be an idiot but you have to give him credit for picking Ball up immediately after he was waived by San Diego. At the time, I thought that was one of Bradways best acquistions cause Ball was very good player at UCLA. I agree w/ the posters that it's best for him and the team that he is a back-up who is part of the rotation.

Ball has performed above my expectations at this point. He shows good hustle and effort along with a knack for making plays. However, I still think it's way too early to just pop him into the starter role like some of you suggested. Let's see if he can first continue to impress and play well consistently.
