Do we draft a LB if Scott or Lewis aren't signed? Personally, I think its a possibility. Cushing would be a good fit in our D. He is very flexible and can play the inside or outside. What do you all thiink?
There are a lot of ILBs that seem to be in the 15-20 range that can really help this team. Maulauga I think is secretly on the Jets radar as a top prospect if no ILB is here. Cushing can help as well. I like Clint Sintim too.
If we sign Bart Scott, which looks like the scenario at this point, then we shouldn't go LB too early. I would say in the mid rounds at earliest for depth purposes. But then again, apparently the team likes Jason Trusnik and Kenwin Cummings. So maybe that's going to be a large part of our depth at ILB.
I think that Rex would love to have Maulauga. Give Rex Ryan a linebacker with those kind of skills and he will turn him into a consistent pro bowler. I wouldn't be surpised if they signed Scott and drafted Maulagua. Rex will design a defense based on the talent he has.
Scott and Barton will be the determinants. If we sign Scott, then ILB doesn't really become a need, and we can look to one in a later round for depth, or just wait until next year and see what we have in Cummings and Trusnik this year. The same goes for Barton. If we don't sign Scott and release Barton, then we'll have to go ILB early as we won't have a known starter.
If we don sign Scott then we have to draft an ilb early Cushing right now would be my choice., Jasper running a 4.6 him in the 4th would be good too.
IMO, IF (and that's a big if) either Maulauga or Cushing are still on the board at #17, the book goes right out the window and we draft them no questions asked. This draft is deep enough secondary-wise to pick up a more than capable CB in round 2.
Then we go after Channing Crowder from Miami. I would love to take a major talent away from a division rival and Crowder is the kind of ILB we need next to Harris. Harris is the run-stuffing thumper and while Crowder is very capable of stopping the run he is also very good in coverage inside the 3-4. And he's young.
