what sort of adjustments would we need to make to sufficiently protect him in obvious passing situations? With Vick being a Southpaw, what happens to the current configuration of the offensive line if anything? Everyone knows that Vick, while very mobile, is not built to endure punishment, particularly brutal impacts coming from the blindside. What adjustments, if any, would need to be made in order to provide him with the same level of pass protection he'd be getting if he was a right handed QB?
It's actually not a big deal- everything just flips to the other side. RT and LT swap spots, LG and RG swap spots, and all the plays are mirrored as well.
lol, glad someone is thinking this through, god knows it's not our front office. yea, if vick starts we have a big problem. just like every other team that vick has started for and gotten hurt. 1 season where he played 16 games?? anyway, if vick starts we will have him till he gets hurt on us and move gino into the starting role. if we pretend anything else is going to happen we are just lying to ourselves.
I could be wrong but I don't believe that's true. I don't believe the linemen are just going to adjust their footwork to the other side so easily. Also, unless the opposing team has a pass rusher that normally plays on either side I doubt they flip sides for left handed QB's.
Yeah, I'm not so sure Brick just flips over to RT and is 100% comfortable or effective. He's been playing against bull rushes and swim moves and spins etc all from the left with his left hand doing a lot of the work outside and his left foot back-does he have the technique to do that with the right hand with his right foot back? Maybe he does, I'm just not so sure. _
also take into account that the defense also needs to switch it up and is not always used to seeing a lefty, so they are also not 100% comfortable. in fact if vick starts, we will continue to play with a lefty lineup while other defenses have to change to prepare just for us
If Vick starts there's only one thing to make sure of......the punters leg needs to be warmed up and stretched and the o line needa extra practice at recovering fumbles
I don't think that's correct. I can't remember any instance where a team flipped their tackles for a lefty. Can you cite any examples?
Nope, 'cause I'm probably wrong. If I am wrong, then Vick will get inferior protection and will be extra vulnerable compared to Smith.
2 yrs ago when Timmy came in for a snap or two what adjustments did our line make? I don't recall any.
It has nothing to do with flipping the tackles and guards, the problem is that you don't understand the difference. Adjusting the blocking schemes handles it, otherwise Vick would have gotten destroyed in his first two seasons with Philly. Yes, you're wrong, but only because you haven't educated yourself about why.
lol.. this thread is a bunch of organized chaos with all the talk about flipping and adjusting offensive lineman, Nothing will change. Players will just have to be aware that Vick is a lefty and will most like roll out that way. its all a mental and chemistry thing
Nice thread. There are actually Jet fans entertaining the possibility of Vick starting and possibly staying healthy.
