it is a $12 million cap hit this year, correct? They can't spread that out over a few years, can they?
Why would they want to spread it out anyway? Take the hit and be done once and for all with it. Same for all the Parcells/Bradway legacy contracts still on the books. Time to start over man..
They can spread it out over this year and next if they release him after June 1st...but what's the point. Might as well rid yourself of the cap hit in one year and be done with it
Because I am discussing this with someone else, and I wanted to make sure I wasn't wrong. I agree with you.
No... 12M dead cash this year. He's 12 or 15 million against the cap without restructuring this year depending on the reports... (there may be a 3M incentive there, which while he may not hit this year, counts on the cap until he doesn't hit it because of the CBA)
No, they CAN'T. This is WRONG INFORMATION. 2 reasons why. 1) He's due a roster bonus on 3/2. If he is on the team on 3/2, he gets 3M of the 9M he's owed this year (3M more is prorated bonus, and 3M more is an incentive) 2) Since there is not a new CBA, there is NO SPREADING OUT CONTRACTS OF CUT PLAYERS after 6/1. This is because 2007 is an uncapped year.
That's wrong info too. He's due a 3M roster bonus, and 6M in salary. He also has 3M of his signing bonus to count on the cap this year if he's on the team. That's 12M. There is also an incentive, from what I am hearing, for 3M that he probably won't hit BUT has to count on this years cap.. If the incentive is true, that's 15M. If it's not, that's 12. If he's cut, he has 12M of his 18M signing bonus that has not been accounted for yet. That's 12M. One other thing. There is a thing in the contract allowing the Jets to make all 6M of his base salary signing bonus this year. That would bring his cap figure down by 4.5M if they elect that option. That would put him at 10.5 or 7.5 depending on the incentive.
Agree. Eat some of Boobway's STUPID contracts and move on. Thank God Boobway is not still offering those contracts.
There are no Parcells legacy contracts. Every single player currently under contract was signed by the cap genious Tannenbaum.
Post of the Thread... The Jets are rebuilding, hopefully under the right regime...Don't spread things out, just take it all in one shot rather than hurt the cap for 07...
My thinking is: Parcells contracts that overlapped and went to Badway: Mawae, Martin, Chrebet, Abraham, Pennington, Testaverde, Ellis. Badway inspired contracts/extensions: Martin, Chrebet, Testaverde, Pennington, Mawae, Ellis, Robertson Odd man out: Abraham Retirees: Chrebet, Testaverde Dead weight: Mawae, Kendall, Pennington. Players willing to take the cut: Martin. Feel free to add to this list as needed.. Point being that the Parcells signings forced the Bradway extension in alot of cases. That's where the legacy portion of my post comes into play..
