If the SF. 49ers wind up signing Kurt Warner, that really changes the landscape of this draft dramatically. the only teams ahead of us that i see that might want a QB are; 1-Detroit 2-Rams 4-Seattle If Detroit takes Stafford,And the Rams & Seattle don't go QB, i see Sanchez & Freeman falling in our laps. I think at that point we trade the pick to either Tampa or Chicago, as these teams could be looking for thier next signal caller. The only other monkey wrench i see is Denver, if they are really looking to unload Cutler, but i doubt either one of the 2 available would peak thier interest enough to make such a bold move. Detroit might even throw everything outta whack, and go O-lineman with the first pick. Anyway you slice it, barring Chicago or Tampa moving up before us, i see Sanchez and Freeman available.
Yes, but Flacco's question marks came about because of his competition. He had the tools AND the production. Freeman doesn't have the production. He doesn't carry his team the way a first round pick should, if that makes any sense. Don't get me wrong, he's very talented, but unless a team starts drooling over his measurables and ignores his production, he's not going in the first.
Me neither. The more I think about it, the more I want to see about a trade down in the 1st to grab Nicks or Sean Smith and then packaging picks from that trade down to grab the other one if possible. Then the only REAL question mark of what we're doing is QB and I'm more than willing to give Clemens and Ratliff a shot.
Freeman is rated as the number 3 QB on most draft boards...number 3 QBs don't drop to the 3rd round. I'm seeing him being selected anywhere from Detroit at 20 to the 40s.
But why not? When there's a severe lack of talent at the position (and Freeman being the 3rd highest rated QB, there is) why draft one if the value isn't there. He won't be the BPA until the late 2nd or 3rd round, and there's not enough teams looking for a QB. They might draft him on potential, but I don't see it happening before then. I could be wrong, but his play was too spotty in college for me to think he's gonna sneak into the 1st or even the early part of the 2nd.
Last year they said the QB class was weak, also. Look what happened there. I don't want a QB for us, either. I'm just hoping someones willing to trade up for the one thats available when we pick.
1. Warner will be 38, when the season starts, the 9ers could very well still draft a QB, if they like one. 2. If Denver unloads Cutler for Sanchez, their ne FO should be fired imediatly. 3. Teams are usually not far off with their Rankings, if Sanchez drops to us, and Chicago and/or Tampa wants him, we?ll want him to, and draft him.
Do you think if Flacco had been the QB at Kansas State that he would have had the production he had while at Delaware.... Freeman plays on a really crappy team in the Big 12...
His team's not that good, and I'm not arguing that. But his spotty play is not the team's fault. He's inconsistent, and I'm not going by numbers here. He'll make a bad throw right after a good throw and never really seems to get in a rhythm. You need consistency at the QB position and I'm not convinced Freeman has it. I would stay far far away from him at #17 and hope that somebody else drafts him too high. I'll take a shot at him in the 3rd but no earlier. As for Flacco, no, I don't think he would have done that well. But then again, I'm one that doesn't see his season this year as THAT much of a success. He managed games and did a good job of it, but people that attribute their winning to him are dead wrong. They leaned on that D and that running game.
Exactly what i was thinking. In fact a team with a vet like warner would be the perfect situation for Sanchez. He gets to sit and learn for a couple years but knows his time is comming soon. The Niners signing Warner would not affect thier draft much at all IMO.
