...then I believe they need to sign a veteran back-up QB with some juice and a better DE. Regarding the QB who I think is going to be great: As much as I'm praying that Sanchez will remain healthy enough to play 19 or 20 games necessary to get us to Dallas in February, it's arrogant and negligent for the Jets brass talk Super Bowl without a proven insurance policy on the roster. As for the DEs: Assuming the Jets can navigate past the obstacles of believing their own hype, contract holdouts, Hard Knocks, the negative blowback from TJ's & Faneca's departures, and Rex's flapping jaws, I do believe the Jets CAN get back to the AFC Championship. I just don't think they would beat Manning without a better push upfront. I don't care how good the secondary is, their pass rush is average at best and requires T-Rex's 8- and 9-man jailbreaks just to create pressure. And PS, those blitzes won't be such a surprise this year. IF THE JETS REALLY BELIEVE THEIR THISCLOSE TO A CHAMPIONSHIP, THE GM NEEDS TO PULL THE TRIGGER ON A DEAL BEFORE THE TRADING DEADLINE TO GET A 3-4 END IN HERE WHO WILL DEMAND A DOUBLE-TEAM (THE CALIBER OF A SEYMOUR) AND CREATE A RUSHING LANE FOR PACE AND TAYLOR AND COMPANY.
We're pretty much a lock to sign Brunell when the Final Four rules are up at the end of July I believe.
Great idea. Lets sign a guy like Richard Seymour. While we're at it, lets sign guys like Dick Butkus and OJ Simpson.
Rex's blitzes haven't been a surprise for a while. Where they are coming from each time, on the other hand, is. Plus, with Big Jenks making his return, there will be some push up front, assuming he stays healthy. The Jets will be dominant if, and only if, the secondary holds up better than last year. Particularly against the dominant passing teams. There will be pressure, that I can assure you.
Exactly. The Raiders gave up a 1st rounder for Seymour. So you can pay no less to get him from them. Good luck with that idea.
yea i think the de is a little overkill...i can see where your coming from with a veteran backup QB tho.
If the secondary is half as good as it is on paper, we won't need a pass rush. As said multiple times in just as many threads, Manning and Co smoked the Jets secondary. It wasn't the pass rush or DL that lost the game. Wilson, Cromartie, Lowery > Sheppard, Stirckland (injuried), & Lowery. No sense in including Revis cause we all now the oppositions #1 WR is out of the game. Taylor and Pace on the outsides will be plenty in passing situations. As others said, wait till July to see what happens.
So.... we should trade for a Demarcus Ware type player (because they are so easy to get) or we won't go to the super bowl. This is just some brilliant analysis.
DEs dont command double teams. If they did, you'd have all 5 OLmen AND a TE tied up just blocking the front 3... with no one to block a single LB... NTs command double teams (and not all NTs do... just the good ones). DEs 2-gap... but they dont command double teams. They just arnt big/strong enough where a Tackle would need help moving one... or, like in the case of blocking an NT, need help to prevent getting pushed backwards.
I doubt the Jets are serious about the Super Bowl. Who would be in the NFL anyway? Its not like its the goal of every team. They have made no statement saying they intend to try to win it. I think they'll just go out there and win if they can, but not really stress themselves out too much over winning. Why should they?
