What do you think of shipping him to Cleveland or a team that could some WR help? If Enunwa eats into his snaps and when Devin comes back, I don't see where Kerley fits in. Sure maybe as a PR and some offensive snaps, but wouldn't that roster spot be best used on an Olineman? Hell I'd ship Geno and Kerley to Cleveland for some oline help and a pick. But at the very least if we can open up the roster spot and save some money on the cap we can keep an extra Olineman or even pursue Evan Mathis?
If Enunwa can replace Kerley then it makes sense to try and ship him for something, though I doubt we get much in return. So far I have been confused with the way they have been handling Kerley.
Good thread. I been watching the kerley situation and even predicted he wouldn't be on the team before owusu got hurt. I find it very curious that he is getting very little run with the 1s. First it was devin, he goes down they put osuwuin,he gets hurt enunwa goes in. Its like they refuse to let Kerley get snaps. I'm not sure what his value would be though.
Bowles said he wants Enunwa in there with the starters because of his blocking, at least that's why he worked there recently with the #1's. If that's what Chan is gunning for I don't see how Kerley is going to compete with that, he can't block. And we have two younger guys, bigger deep threat weapons right behind him in Owusu and Devin of course who combined probably make 1/3 or what Kerley makes. But those 3 young guys are not proven, Kerley is proven, you can count on him. Owusu is a huge question mark now with his concussion history, Devin will be fine, but Enunwa has to prove he's up to the task and make some plays. I wouldn't mind trading Kerley even though I really like him, if we can get something decent in return. Which we probably won't. A late round pick won't cut it. Evan Mathis I think we could get either way, I think it's just a question of not wanting to pay him what he's asking for, rather than us not having the money to sign him.
Not gonna start a new thread on this so I'll just post this here. Kerley seems bitter, not a fan of that comment. I can see why he might be disappointed, but he shouldn't take that angle. Coach Todd Bowles said as much after Sunday's practice. Right now, Kerley remains the No. 1 slot receiver, but "they're competing for it," Bowles said. "We'll see when a couple of games happen, what happens." It sounds like the formal competition for Kerley's position is news to Kerley. He was asked if it feels like he's battling Enunwa, since Bowles said that. "Yeah, I guess so," Kerley said. "I guess I see what it is now." Bowles did point out the situational aspect to Enunwa getting lots of work as the first-team slot receiver. Certain scenarios — like running plays — require a bigger slot receiver who can block better than Kerley. Enter Enunwa. "Quincy Enunwa is a bigger guy, so you can quasi have another wide out and a blocker at the same time and do some things," Bowles said. "We're just looking at it as a different role. It has nothing to do with Kerley."
this is interesting. the coaching staff clearly isn't too high on him. I really think if that's the case we should move him.
Kerleys celing isn't very high ......I've always liked him.. but if Enunwa is the better option then so be it.Kerley doesn't have much trade value maybe a 5th at best.I like the idea of using Kerley on certain packages .....he is mediocre as a punt returner and as soon as Devin Smith is healthy I expect him to be returning punts over Kerley
id consider a 5th a win. I think the value from kerley being traded is more opening up the roster spot and the minor cap savings.
I think Enunwa needs to have a decent preseason before even thinking about trading or cutting Kerley.
Kerley's biggest problem is he was just extended by Public Enemy Number 1: John Idzik. I don't see any other issues. He is a solid slot WR and contributed even more than that in past years for a weak Jets offense. That is the only reason I can see him getting the cold shoulder from Bowles or Maccagnan. They would not have given him a 4 year, $16 million deal it seems.
if we're talking a 5th round pick I don't consider that a throw away. esp bc a team like lets say Cleveland is going to blow this year. altho frankly I see no way we get a 5th for kerley when we gave a 5th for Brandon marshall plus the value comes more with what we do with his roster spot in this scenario, than anything else.
Kerley looked good as rookie, after that he was an average #3 in the league at best. If anything I hope this is a motivation tool. But chalking this one up as another blunder by Idzik and co for extending him.
I couldn't believe they extended kerley but that's idzik for you. Kerley cant block, hes a terrible PR and hes slow. Huge upgrade potential for the Jets in his spot
Even Cimini of all people said Kerley has been unguardable in one on ones this year in camp. Put him on the field with Decker and Marshall, he's probably to be covered one on one. I have to believe this is a motivation tactic.
He's not going anwhere, we would have to eat 3.4 million in dead money if we ship him out. Beside, it may be Devin Smith that eventually wins the job when he gets back. We haven't had a deep threat that can scare the crap out of defenses in ages.
I agree, BUT I have to say, I don't think Kerley always gives it his all every game. There are times where he looks almost unstoppable in the slot - then there are times where he completely disappears.
